Outside style and performance
From the very first glance, the Sun Odyssey 349 captivates with her unadulterated lines. The hull has a hard chine that runs from well before the mid-ships all the way aft adding stability underway. She has a reverse deck sheer adding to the sleek look but importantly increasing interior volume.
This model sports the winged shoal draft keel drawing 4ft 10in. This design maintains sailing performance without sacrificing access to the shallower anchorages. The twin rudders give fabulous tracking and ‘feedback’, making her a real joy to helm.
The twin wheel configuration and no backstay give a clear walkthrough to the companionway through the vast cockpit. The wide swim platform offers easy boarding and the extra outside living space this platform adds at anchor is impressive.
Sprayhood and bimini with led lighting are included, additionally, there is an electric windlass at the bow.
Under sail and power
The Seldén fractional rig boasts double aft-swept spreaders and carries a furling mainsail and Genoa.
On deck, Jeanneau uses friction rings rather than tracks and fairleads for the genoa sheets. The “Y” bridle mainsheet also uses friction rings, eliminating the need for a traveler, so that the rigid vang becomes the main means of controlling twist in the leach.
Harken winches are in easy grasp, two primary and two on the coachroof. With a full array of Raymarine electronics and all the sail controls led neatly to the cockpit she is a breeze to sail short-handed.
The Yanmar 21HP delivers over 6 knots at 2,900 rpm and she is responsive and easy to operate under power.
Functionality and Style below
This is the 3 cabins 1 head version. The master cabin forward has a V-berth with the water tank beneath. There is a double door to the master cabin that when open expands the overall feeling of space below. There are two double berths aft and the head is set to port.
The saloon has a remarkable 6ft 3in of headroom and includes a folding table with seating for four. When the table has folded the space in the saloon opens up nicely. There is a dedicated aft-facing Navigation station that uses the saloon settee as a seat.
The L-shaped galley to starboard is compact and functional with a single sink adjacent to the centerline, a two-burner stove, and top-loading refrigeration.
Finest woodwork accents an incredibly bright, well-lit interior.
