Relative informazioni Oyster 56

English

Oyster 56/35 SHAYA MOYA - A much acclaimed bluewater cruiser from the renown Humphreys stable. A serious sea-going yacht proven over many thousands of miles and with an established track record as one of the most successful yachts in Oyster’s history. Many live-aboard owners confirm that she is easily handled by just two crew members, but is spacious enough for six to eight people to cruise in comfort. The single wheel helm aft has winches close to hand, so she can be sailed short-handed if necessary. Now with her second Owner and having undergone a comprehensive refit in 2018, SHAYA MOYA has been optimised for independent living and is a strong consideration for anyone looking to enter the Oyster World Rally or indeed, the ARC.

Built over a 10-year period from the late 1990s onwards, the Oyster 56 is the most popular model in Oyster’s 42-year history, with more than 70 built. There are a number of reasons for this success, but in particular, it’s an optimum size for many people: small enough to be sailed by a couple without paid crew, but large enough to take four or even six guests in comfort as well. A Rob Humphreys design with good performance and up-to-date design thinking, while retaining hallmark Oyster features including a skeg-hung rudder, a cutter headed rig with an efficient heavy weather jib on a furler and a spacious deck saloon.

Below decks - The 56 was offered with the choice of two interior arrangements and SHAYA MOYA has the B option with a second guest cabins plus a workshop/utility room alongside the separate engine space. She also has a large ensuite Owner’s stateroom aft, and a double fore cabin, both with island beds. As you might expect, the saloon is superbly spacious and well lit. There’s also an impressive galley, with a four-burner gimbaled cooker, front opening fridge, a freezer, ice-maker, dishwasher and ample worktop and stowage space. The Oyster 56 offers an impressive amount of stowage that makes living on board for long periods significantly more comfortable and organised.

Broker comments

"The quintessential Oyster and undisputed class leader at this size, the 56 is also our most successful model, with seventy-five launched between 1998 and 2010. Rob Humphreys designed the 56 to be large enough for rapid ocean cruising and to accommodate her crew in comfort and style when living aboard, but also to be small and agile enough to be handled by a couple. The 56 was the first yacht with an ergonomically designed cockpit, the result of working with Loughborough University's Ergonomics department, making relaxing and entertaining a true pleasure, whilst maintaining all the essential qualities you expect from a serious seagoing yacht. She’s a proven performer with class wins in the ARC, and also winning Cruising Class 1 at Antigua Sailing Week, beating a number of more serious racing competitors" - Oyster Yachts.

"With the Oyster 56, our mission was to design a world-class cruising yacht that would epitomise the features of the Oyster heritage and evolve them to create an ocean-going yacht which appeals to bluewater cruising enthusiasts. The Humphreys team uses extensive tank testing when designing our racing yachts and the concept of the 56’s keel has benefited from this experience. Her stylish, well-balanced profile and generous sail area make the best use of the yacht’s stability due to the low centre of gravity bulb keel. In designing the cockpit of the Oyster 56 - a focal point of its design - we commissioned professional ergonomic studies from the University of Loughborough’s Department of Ergonomics. The result sets new standards in comfort, seaworthiness and safety both at sea and in harbour, and makes for relaxed entertaining and socialising" - Designers notes.

Oyster 56/35 SHAYA MOYA is a great example of a yacht equipped for short-handed adventures with family and ocean cruising adventures and regattas. Her sailhandling systems are optimized for a small crew featuring hydraulic in-mast furling to the mainsail, headstay and staysail, along with a hydraulic outhaul, backstay and vang, which in conjunction with electric primary and mainsheet winches, means that sail controls are also easily adjustable from the comfort and safety of the centre cockpit.

Below deck, SHAYA MOYA is equipped with six berths in three cabins, consisting of two spacious doubles forward and aft, and a twin forward to port with berths wider than standard. The forth cabin space at midships consists of a workshop/utility with fantastic access to the engine room and ample storage throughout. Finished in Millennium style crown-cut maple, with teak soles, the accommodation is light and bright throughout, with upholstery that is easily adaptable to any taste.

Having undergone a comprehensive refit in 2018 with works including a new teak deck, rig pull and overhaul, installation of a completely new Raymarine instrumentation and communication suite, along with new batteries, electric davits, and servicing and replacement of a multitude of additional elements, SHAYA MOYA has been optimised for independent living and is a standout yacht amongst the Oyster 56 fleet.
