Designed for comfortable ocean passages and extended cruises to tropical and cold climates, she is easily handled by a couple, or up to an additional 4 guests.   The clever part of the design is that it integrates a proper pilothouse with its own helm and watch keepers navigation station, dining table and bunk for a resting off duty crew mate to be immediately on hand, in addition to the good sized saloon and navigation station area below -  features usually only found in much larger boats.

The brief to naval architect Dieter Empacher was to create a strong,  very stable boat with the most comfortable sea motion possible so that the boat could be sailed short handed on long passages without the crew becoming exhausted.  So different from the modern wedge shaped production boats with open sterns, flat bottoms and tiny fin keels that have a violent motion and high angle of heel in rough weather. Fast and exhilarating they may be, but exhausting too. And the recent Orca incidents show how vulnerable and weakly built they are.

Hull and superstructure are made of seawater-resistant aluminum (5083). Hull: 8mm, superstructure: 5mm. Recovery steps inset into the hull amidships. The hull and decks are insulated with 25 mm foam.

Safety was high on the agenda at the design stage. 4 Watertight bulkheads in case of accident.  3 Bilge pump systems - automatic electric pumps and a 150gph engine driven pump drawing from each compartment plus a manual pump. In the cockpit there are 4 harness fixing points and on each side of the deck s/s jacklines run from the stern to the bow, so crew can be clipped on at all times when on deck.  There are grab handles where needed in the cockpit, exiting the cockpit, around the pilothouse and down the stairs to the saloon.  Below, the passage galley provides support to the cook, and the saloon's not too wide so that the high fiddles provide secure handholds when moving about in rough weather.   Retrieving a man-overboard is made easier by the steps built into both sides of the hull beneath the port & starboard gates in the waist-height guard wires.  The propane system has 3 safety features - a solenoid shut off valve, a bubbler and a manual valve.

The owners keep her in excellent condition. Conducted works 2017/2018:

Cooker & fuel: Force 10 from 2018. Cooker hood from 2022
Other:

In the stern is the owner's cabin with a centerline double bed and adjacent head. The guest cabin with a centerline double bed in the bow of the ship. In the forepart is also the third cabin with a bunk bed. The 9 Gebo hull windows provide a lot of light and ventilation. Also provided with mosquito nets. In the pilothouse, the 12 mm tinted and toughened glass ensure a beautiful panoramic view. 4 Windows can be opened. In addition to the water tank, the ship is also equipped with a separate drinking water tank (stainless steel of 250 l) with extra filters. Also included: Bosch wash / dry combination. BBQ Magma stainless steel on aft rail.

The hull has the capacity to provide up to 5 tons of stores - 200l fuel,1,000l water, 250l filtered drinking water, 4 propane tanks, 2 outboard fuel tanks, hydraulic oil drum, engine oils, greases and tools, equipment, spares with ample refrigeration for fresh and frozen food, and extensive storage for dry foods, cans, wine, china & glasses (yes real china and real glass!).  There are wardrobes, lockers and drawers in each cabin for clothing, a wet locker, & trash locker.  A locker for bedding, another for dirty laundry and a washer/dryer.

Most systems have built in redundancy.  Power is generated by solar, by the generator and by the engine driven alternator. Fuel is stored in 3 tanks with interchange valves and a circulation system to clean or move fuel from tank to tank to balance the boat.  Similarly, fresh water for the showers and faucets is stored in two tanks in case of contamination which also enables trim to be maintained; filtered drinking water is in a third stainless steel tank.  In the event of both the electric water pump and its spare failing, water can be pumped by a manual foot pump from any tank.  The refrigerator and freezers are chilled by a heavy duty seawater cooled compressor.  In the event of it failing, there are two completely independent air cooled compressors, one for the fridge and one for the freezer.  These units can also operate when the boat is on the hard, avoiding the need to empty the fridge and freezer.

Equipment
Other:

Many European boats arriving in the Caribbean for the first time, find that their tender is too small for the distances to shore in the chop created by the Tradewinds windy conditions - even ribs.  A 3m loa deep V hull, such as found on Cantilena’s Novourania RIB is required to provide a reasonably quick, dry ride.  But stowing such a tender on davits at the stern accentuates the pendulum effect arising from a heavy weight hanging right at the stern and  results in an increase in fore-aft pitching motion.  Stowing the tender inboard, on the aft deck eliminates this problem; whilst stowage forward of the mast, would also overcomes the issue, but would obstruct visibility forward. A boom extender for launching the dingy from the aft deck is forseen.

The Muir 3500kg windlass for bow anchors and mooring lines is hydraulic powered, but can aslo be operated manually. With a rope capstan it can be used for tightening Med-mooring lines. Additionally there is also a warping windlass on the stern for thightening mooring lines.

Bow anchor: Delta 50 kg with 110m 3/8 High Tensile chain and CQR 50 kg with 30m chain and 100 anchor line.

Lewmar Ocean hydraulic windlass for stern anchor and mooring lines.
