Hanse 430e – 2008 - £119,500

Still in the original ownership from new, this indulgently spacious and family orientated 43-footer has seen only light use from new.

Hanse’s primary philosophy has been that spaciousness needn’t come at the expense of performance, modern design innovations combine to give a comfortable yacht that can be simple to handle, amply demonstrated on the Hanse 430e model with a tall mainsail-driven rig, self-tacking headsail, an electrically driven main halyard winch, and twin steering positions.

‘Abenaki’ has been lightly up-graded since new - with the original battery installation up-rated and supplemented with a relatively large capacity ‘Solar’ array together with the battery charging regulation to suit. A larger than commonly found battery charger has also been fitted.

The yacht is already booked to be lifted and re-antifouled in early April 2025, at the same time the engine’s ‘Saildrive’ transmission’s sealing gasket is scheduled to be replaced and a contractor booked to polish the hull’s topsides. A rigger’s inspection and report has also already been commissioned and carried out in advance of the vessel being brought ashore to identify any work to be carried out.

Accommodation

A three-cabin (outside of the main saloon) layout, with ‘Master’ cabin and ‘en-suite’ heads forward and two double cabins (with mirrored layouts) aft. Generous L-shaped galley to starboard, with day-use heads compartment opposite the galley and located close to the companionway. Saloon features generous seating around a table offset to starboard, with individual seat’s to port side, for’ and aft of a smaller ‘Occasional’/chart table.

Finished in ‘Mahogany’-style woodwork, contrasting with white leather and featuring LED lighting throughout, the accommodation is lit and well ventilated by overhead hatches that combine with fixed hull ports and opening coach roof portlights.

Lightly used, and based in the UK this example’s woodwork and soft furnishings are in exemplary order; clean and welcoming.

Forward Cabin: Upon entering the forward cabin, a generous run of half-hanging and shelved lockers (with additional shelved lockers beneath) is fitted to the port side, opposite the heads compartment to starboard. Deeper into the cabin a double berth is offset to starboard, with its head end forward, and a side/’Vanity’ table (with dedicated seat) to port. Fiddled storage shelves are fitted to either cabin side. Warm air heating outlet at foot of the berth. Turn back on oneself and an en-suite heads door opens onto a white moulded heads that incorporates a shower area as well as a ‘Corian’-styled surround about a geometric handbasin. The toilet is a manually flushing unit. A forward holding tank, with dedicated deck pump-out as well as sea valve is fitted. Warm air outlet (close-able) for comfort and drying of the compartment.

Main Saloon: Spacious and indulgent; this area is well lit by overhead hatches opening either forward or aft to catch the breeze or provide natural ventilation and fixed hull ports to either side at seated shoulder height. The fixed pedestal table features bottle stowage within and is offset to the starboard side of the centre-line, with deep U-shaped seating surrounding three sides. Easy access, floor-level drawers are fitted within both ends of the seating (with some additional top-access lockers beneath the outboard seating for bulkier items).

To port side there are two separate seats (the forward one being nearer to a small double settee), with the aft single seat equably useable as an independent chair for chart work or for socialising across the cabin. More storage provided beneath the settee (battery containment beneath the single seat).

Individual locker units, featuring a single closed locker and open, fiddled shelves are fitted in each forward corner, with a double closed locker to starboard, visually balancing the locker with the main 12V DC distribution that is fitted to port, alongside the Navigator’s base.

Nav area: The smaller table to port side is fitted with a fiddle to retain charts or maybe a laptop and storage within. The main 12V DC isolation switches are fitted beneath this table, along with the AC circuit breakers and a MPPT monitor giving the state of battery charge and output available

Disguised behind a couple of diffused doors, the OEM’s main 12V DC distribution board is located alongside the Navigator’s left shoulder, and is fitted with a shared indicator for Fuel and Battery Charge state in addition to a 12V DC socket.

Galley: ‘L’-shaped in form and located to starboard of the companionway, the galley features a ‘Corian’-style finish to the work tops; twin sinks; a combined top and front access fridge and plenty of closed lockers, including a dedicated locker for a large rubbish bin. An opening portlight to the coachroof side above the cooker ensures good ventilation of cooking odours. Although no micro-wave oven is currently fitted, a locker above and outboard of the gas cooker was clearly intended as the location for one.

Aft Cabins: These are mirrored in their layout; both featuring a large double berth extending to the centreline and provided with opening portlights to the cockpit and through the coachroof sides for good light and ventilation. Both are fitted with half-height hanging lockers and shelved closed lockers outboard, with three closed lockers to the inboard side of the berths.

Day/Aft Heads Compartment: Located to port, immediately at the foot of the main companionway, this heads incorporates a generous shower stall separated from the rest of the compartment by a hinged shower door. A manually-flushed marine toilet is plumbed through a dedicated holding tank. Light and ventilation provided by an opening portlight to the coachroof side. A large, framed mirror has been added to the inboard bulkhead in the original absence of a mirror over the hand basin.

Ownership History & Background

A single ownership from new, this Hanse 430e is fresh and clean to enter and has been subtly refined by the current owners. Used primarily for local sailing from Plymouth with the family, she has proven to be a very satisfyingly efficient and easy cruiser across the Channel and along the SW peninsula’s coasts.
