English

Major refit including new: rigging; sails; deck; engine.
Now moored at Ipswich, Suffolk, England.

Inviting Offers above £200,000 + VAT

The recent refit was specified and project-managed by the Owner, a Naval Architect.

This Sweden Yachts 50 - European model - is in excellent condition and located in central Ipswich, Suffolk, England, where one of our brokers lives close-by.

Launched in June 2024 from a yard in Brightlngsea, Essex, after the extensive renovation and with 3 coats of International 250 applied just prior to launching.  Sailed to near Ipswich for the new rigging in August 2024 as specified.  Very little use since then

Sweden Yachts are renowned for making well-built cruiser racers with excellent seaworthiness - genuinely long-legged 'blue-water' yachts.
Designed and built to Lloyd's Specification, this Sweden Yachts 50 has three double sleeping cabins, plus the sofa/pilot berth specification in the main cabin, plus an optional full-length berth in one of the aft cabins thus eight adult berths in total and all with lee cloths.
There is a large central main saloon with well-planned galley and dining area for eight on the port side and the navigation and command console on the starboard side (plus the sofa which can become the pilot berth).
The Master cabin towards the bow has its own en-suite facility as well as a working desk thus enabling, with the twin 5G antennas, the ability to be in touch with the outside world as required.

This Sweden Yachts 50 benefits from being owned by a fastidious Naval Architect who has master-minded an excellent renovation over the last 3 years that includes:

- New standing rigging,
- New running rigging;
- New main sail and a new Yankee sail (a high-clew Genoa for serious off-shore cruising);
- New 110hp engine (replacing the original 65hp engine) which has just had its first service and new: gearbox, drive-shaft and 4 blade featherstream propeller  - all with about 25 hours use;
(Note: the higher-power engine became standard from 1992 onwards which helps for transit passages under power),
- New Flexiteek decking to the 'ring deck' (everything except the cockpit and its surrounding area); - New skin fittings below the water-line;
twelve new keel-bolts for the 6.5 ton wing-design keel that helps to maximise access to shoal areas and sheltered marinas;
- New hatches;
- New port-lights;
-Some new navigation equipment;
- Plus many detailed improvements inside the cabins such as new: curtains, taps, carpets, cushions, etc.

Sweden Yachts only made 19 of these 50-footers and they have an enviable reputation amongst knowledgeable off-shore sailors.
This example is a proven blue-water cruiser having sailed the Atlantic in an ARC event.
The fin keel enables this yacht to sail in Shoal Draft waters, drawing only 2.1 metres.

Viewing by appointment with our local Broker who took many of the high-resolution pictures and lives overlooking the marina.

A copy of a recent and detailed survey - plus an extended video taken by the Owner - are available upon request.

Layout: 3 cabins, saloon + galley, 2 heads

From the bow going aft the following is relevant to each cabin given the constant: unmarked Alcantara fabric; high-grade wooden panelling; scrubbable /waterproof white carpets; hot air outlets from the stripped and serviced Eberspacher heating unit.
Holly and maple flooring in all cabins and the floor is level throughout except for the raised dining area.

The Master Cabin is at the bow with its own en-suite facility with Corian hand-basin, WC and walk-in shower. The large double bed is to the port side with a desk and writing desk to starboard.  There is plenty of storage space.

The main saloon has the stepped mast at the bow end of this open area with an adjacent smart TV with a 'wide-angle' screen and Bluetooth connectivity.
To port is a slightly raised floor area to one side being the dining area which can seat 8 comfortably.
Also on the port side, aft of the sofa and dining area, is a very well-equipped galley with hob, two refrigerators, and two sinks with separate taps for the fresh cold and hot water and also salt water.  The hob has its own extractor fan.

To starboard in the main saloon is a sofa which can be adjusted to become the pilot berth and above is the 'music centre' with radio, DVD player, etc.
Aft of that is the chart table and navigation centre, with repeaters of the navigation functions at the helm.  This is also the command console for the vessel's lights and information relating to water storage across the four fuel tanks, similarly for the two water tanks.
There is an extensive suite of navigation and communication equipment.
The 4 fuel tanks were installed new in 2014, made by Tek-Tanks in Hampshire England, and recently cleaned with new pipework enabling the ability to 'bunker' diesel from the most recent source (separate from that already on board).

Aft, on the starboard side in the main saloon, is the wet locker with its own hot air outlet and an extractor fan.

At the aft end of the main saloon, in the centre, are the entrance/exit steps and aft of those is the second heads with WC, Corian hand-basin and shower.  These facilities are accessed from either the aft port corridor or the aft starboard corridor with a door from each.

The aft port corridor leads to a guest cabin with a double berth.
The aft starboard corridor leads to another guest cabin with a double berth with, above it, the optional extra of a full (1.9 x 0.8 metre) berth although with restricted head-room.

In total there are: 3 double berth cabins - one of which has an extra berth above the double - plus the pilot berth so seven full-size berths plus one restricted berth.

Main Cabin. High standard further enhanced.

As if the 'standard' specification of a Sweden Yachts 50 - European - model in the optional pilot berth specification wasn't enough, this example benefits from improvements such as:

Smart TV to allow blue-tooth connectivity.  The screen is of the 'wide-angle' specially type designed for boats and an Autex sound box
- New speakers;
-Small and large refrigerators;
-New white scrubbable/waterproof carpets with bound edges;
- Salt water and fresh water pumps to the two sinks on the port side;
- DVD player;
- New cushions to enhance the unmarked Alcantara upholstery;
- New head-lining;
- New curtains;
- New fire extinguishers throughout.

The gas system has been over-hauled and a new gas inspection certificate awarded.

On the starboard side the wet locker has not only its own warm air feed from the Eberspacher diesel-fired heating but also an extractor fan to speed the drying process.  (All cabins have a hot air outlet from that Eberspacher system).

The navigation and control centre on the starboard side has been re-worked. A  new Raymarine plotter has been fitted together with a new Class 'B' AIS radio, plus radar and a very effective Sailor VHF.  There is also a radar, autopilot and Navtex..

New senders were fitted that indicate the level in the 4 GRP diesel fuel tanks (installed in 2014 and with a combined  larger capacity than standard) and also in the two stainless steel water tanks (about 220 UK gallons of fresh water when both are full).

Sails, Rigging, Self-Furling and Winches

As part of the re-fit all the Standing Rigging and all the Running Rigging was renewed.
Also, new back-stay and hydraulic tensioner was installed - insulated for the SSB radio

Two new North sails were purchased - the Main and also the Yankee/high-clew Genoa radial cut/higher specification which operates from the self-furling forestay.
There is also a smaller/storm jib for the inner forestay and two spinnaker poles.

Behind the hatch to the windlass is a deep bosun store with warps, sails and also the Parasailor sail being a symmetrical spinnaker for downwind sailing.

As part of the re-fit, all five winches on the fore-deck have been thoroughly serviced, there is an electric winch on each side of the cockpit, and the full list of winches is as follows:

- two Lewmar #66 electric self-tailing two-speed Genoa sheet winches
- one Lewmar #44 self-tailing two-speed Main sheet winch
- two Lewmar #48 self-tailing two-speed Halyard winches
- one Lewmar #40 self-tailing two-speed Reefing winches
- two Lewmar #16 self-tailing Main sheet car control

Central hydraulic system for the boom bang and the backstay.

In addition to the many covers shown in the pictures there is also an all-over boat cover.

Deck and Equipment

From the bow going aft:

A 30kg CQR or similar anchor has about 50 meters of marked chain.
The electrical windlass is a Horizon 1500 model which was sent to the service centre in Glasgow for Simpson Lawrence equipment and was  stripped, inspected, renovated then tested/calibrated.
There is a salt-water pressure wash for the chain and anchor.

The spare anchor is a 25kg Delta.

There are four Dorad ventilators and three Electrolux ventilators.  The engine and battery compartments are ventilated.

The mast has been re-wired and there are two new LED down-lights on the spreaders.

The guard rails were thoroughly inspected and renewed as necessary and there are two pilot gates.

Behind the cockpit there are port and starboard lazarettes.  One contains steering equipment which has been stripped and serviced.  The port lazarette has the 4.5 kw generator which was serviced in 2022.

The stern-rails carry a suite of all-new antennas including 3.5 metre whip aerials, GPS, radio, etc.

There is a Besenzoni teak passarelle fitted and a
t the stern there is a swimming platform and ladder.

Flexiteek Deck

This Sweden Yachts 50 - European model - benefits from having new Flexiteek decks fitted to the ring deck.
Flexiteek has the great advantage of significantly reducing the number of screw-holes needed to secure the decking thus minimising water ingress.  Another benefit is improved heat insulation.

The Flexiteek deck was installed/laid by the Agent for the product in East Anglia, England.

At the same time, the opportunity was taken to lay a sun-deck area immediately in front of the spray hood.  And, as the Flexiteek was being laid, the rigging tracks were lifted and repaired as needed.

Electrical

1.  Electrical

As part of the re-fit, when the new engine was installed, all new batteries and new heavy-duty battery cables were fitted.

The electrical circuits, each having its own dedicated Victron smart battery charger, are 12 volt and 24 volt.  The propulsion engine and also the generator engine each have their own dedicated 12 volt battery.
The house system is 24 volt.

An inverter can generate 240V for light electrical loads when under way.

The propulsion engine has a high-capacity 60amp alternator.

The 4.5 KW generator in a compartment at the stern was new in 2012 and only shows about 120 hours use since.

The hot water calorifier that heats water either draws heat from the engine's hot water cooling system or by using electricity from shore-power.

Two new bilge pumps.

2. Electronic

The Wi-Fi system aboard is a 4G digital yacht system which as a dual antenna and two SIM cards.  In essence, it uses that which has the best signal and can 'toggle' between the two.

On the stern-rail  there are new antenna/aerials which include: VHF for the Sailor radio; GPS for the plotter (which is not overlaid onto the radar screen); AIS; and the 4G wi-fi described above.
