Construction

RCD Status: The yacht was built to MCA Category 0 and was maintained in class to that standard throughout the Challenge Business’s ownership of her.

 

Hull, Deck & Superstructure Construction:

  • 50A mild steel hull.
  • White painted hull (2020).
  • GRP basla sandwhich coachroof.
  • Deck coaming of 316 stainless steel.
  • Deck is painted (2020) and has non-slip TBS pads.
  • Bow platform (2009) Rebuilt of plate in 2020.
  • Six watertight compartments.
  • Watertight doors rebuilt, powder coated and resealed 2015.
  • Coded to MCA Category 0.
  • Antifoul and hull filler stripped 2020. Filler built back up and sealing paint layer renewed to original specification and 3 layers of anti-foul.

 

Keel & Rudder:

  • Steel fin and lead bulb keel.
  • Steel rudder.
  • Rudder top-hat bearings and shaft re-sleeved 2020.

Machinery

Engine & Gearboxes:

  • 1 x Perkins Sabre M130C, 130hp 6 cylinder naturally aspirated engine.

  • Mikuni diesel heating wuth 7 outlets and radiators in all cabins.
  • 2 x Glacier Bay DC Breeze 5.00 BTU/hr air conditioning units fitted in 2009.
  • Air conditioning unit for rear cabin in working order. 
  • Further air conditioning unit to serve the saloon, galley and 2 forward sleeping cabins (not currently operational).  
  • Both units connected to the 24v service battery bank.
  • Lewmar hatches and portlights. Forward sail handling hatch replaced 2016.

 

Entertainment:

  • Sony CD/Radio with internal and external speakers.
  • 36” plasma TV.
  • Internal TPC-IP wireless network with forward and aft wireless repeaters and 4 TB network storage.

 

Lighting:

  • Partially LED.

Accommodation

Summary of Accommodation:

  • 16 berths in 6 cabins.
  • Interior finish in white with teak trim and stainless steel surfaces.  She has laminate soleboards in a teak and holly design throughout.
  • Upholstery - all bunks new in oct 2022, the benches in the saloon are original. An amaizing good quality.
  • 6’6” headroom throughout.
  • New matresses throughout 2023.

Description of layout from forwards:

 

Sailroom:

  • The sail room is situated aft of the collision bulkhead and the full inventory of sails can be stowed here together with all the warps, fenders, sheets and guys. The main & kedge anchors together with their associated chain and warps are also securely stowed in this compartment. A central passageway runs aft from the sail room to the deckhouse.

 

Heads:

  • Head/shower compartments are situated on either side, each with Raritan PE Manual heads, washbasin and shower (new in 2016). The heads can be directed to a 40gallon black water holding tank or piped overboard.

 

Forward cabins:

  • There are two cabins forward. The port cabin is fitted with two fixed births and a stack of four storage boxes. The starboard cabin is fitted with two wider storage shelves that can be used for sail storage or as bunks. Both cabins offer access ports to the outboard forward bilges. Access to the midline bilges is available under the sole.

 

Saloon:

  • The main cabin/galley offer seating accommodation and a navigation seat that can double as a watch birth. Under the sole there is cavernous bilge storage. Painted wooden slats have been fitted to keep stored items from contact with the bilge floor – these are demountable for cleaning and to inspect the bilge hull plating.

 

Galley:

  • A gimbaled 5-burner domestic size Calor gas hob is mounted in a custom-made stainless steel housing. Substantial fiddles allow safe preparation of food at sea in virtually any conditions. A separate Calor gas oven is mounted at the forward end of the proper sea going galley. Five course Christmas meals complete with fresh baked bread and pudding have been prepared in this galley.
  • The galley sink is a single piece custom stainless steel unit (new 2015) with teak cutting boards to fit over the sinks. Two custom knife and gadget drawers have been fitted outboard.
  • New galley fans were fitted 2015.The galley has an Engel DC MT17 “day use” refrigerator/freezer unit.
  • There are massive amounts of above the sole storage in cupboards in the galley/main cabin. Fids are fitted to all shelves. Under and behind the cushions of the main settee there is storage for spare parts and service kits for the engines, winches and deck hardware.

 

Navigation Area:

  • The navigation & communication equipment is situated around the full size chart table, facing aft behind the main saloon.
  • With hanging/drying space for a full complement of foul weather gear, Mikuni Diesel hater (new 2009), watermaker (new 2016) and fuel day tank.

 

Aft Cabins:

  • Inboard there are one fixed and one pipe birth in the midline. Access to the engine bay/gearbox is under the lower bunk. There are four access ports to the aft bilges on both the starboard and port sides. The storage space is cavernous. Under floor springers permit tie downs so that stored items are secure.
  • In the aft mid cabin, on the starboard side, there is one outboard fixed birth with a storage shelf above it. Underneath this bunk is storage space for the spinnaker and other bulky items. Aft of the birth are 12 storage boxes mounted in two vertical stacks.
  • In the aft mid cabin, on the port side, there is one outboard fixed birth with a storage shelf above it. Under this birth is an Engel MT80 DC refrigerator/freezer and a storage space for bulky items. Aft of the birth are 12 storage boxes mounted in two vertical stacks.
  • Inboard the births that were midline have been replaced by a cushioned bench as a relaxation/reading spaced. Access to the engine bay/gearbox is under this bench.
  • The aft cabin has port and starboard fixed bunks with a storage shelf above each. In addition there are six large capacity in built storage boxes.
  • In addition to the aft hatch, there are three dogable ports facing inboard into the crew wells on both the port and starboard sides for ventilation. Fly screens can be fitted/are available for each of these. In addition, DC fans have been mounted to ensure air circulation. These can be operated to support air circulation or with either heating or air conditioning activated.
  • All berths are fitted with lee cloths and reading lights. All cabins have Dorade vents.

Deck Equipment

Rig:

  • Atlantic spars mast (2004).
  • Dyform stainless steel standing rigging including scres and terminal replaced 2023.
  • Harken furlers on yankee and staysail forestays.
  • Hayracks on boom and lazy jacks.
  • 2 x Carbon fibre spinnaker poles.

 

Winches:

  • Harken winches.
  • 2 x Electric sheet winches.
  • 1 x Electric halyard winch.

 

Sails:

  • All sails are the original made by Hood Sails. Main Yankee and staysail which are rigged on, ar in excellent condition. A spinnaker and spare yankee in good conditions are in the boat. There is another main in the boat which needs repair at the batten pockets and at a reef eye.
  • Rolling fore sails.
  • 2 x Vectran mainsails, fully battened with Bainbridge Sailman batten system - 112sq.m (2004).
  • Vectran blade jib.
  • No.1 Yankee.
  • No.2 Yankee.
  • Staysail.
  • Dacron strom staysail.
  • Storm trysail.
  • Spinnaker 1.5oz – 358 sq.m (2000).
  • Asymmetric spinnaker with top snuffer.

 

General:

  • Stainless steel stern arch (2009). Supports all antennae (except VHF & AIS), carries the small dinghy, provides a cover and stowage for 3 liferafts, 4 horseshoe buoys, 2 wind generators and solar panels.
  • Outboard bracker in sail room for 30hp outboard.
  • Fixed bracket on stern rail for 6hp outboard.
  • 4 x LPG tanks in a deck well that vents overboard.

 

Anchoring & Mooring Equipment:

  • 2 x Lewmar anchor windlasses – port and starboard.
  • 1 x CQR.
  • 1 x 45kg Bruce anchor.
  • 1 x Fortress 30lb stern anchor with 50m of nylon rode.
  • 2 x 100m of chain.
  • 50m of 1” nylon rode.
  • Anchor chian passes through stainless steel conduits to lie in separate bilge level storage chambers which are lined with hardwood slats and drain into the sail locker bilge.
  • 3 x Custom sampson posts (2009).
  • Custom Jordan Series Drogue.

 

Covers, Canvas & Cushions:

  • Mainsail cover (2016).

 

Tender & Outboard:

  • 2.6m Avon RIB (2009).
  • 3.7m Achilles SGX sportsboat (red/grey) (2010).
  • 30hp Tohatsu outboard.
