Introducing Alibi 55.5 Hull#09. Available now for the first time and with delivery worldwide in early 2024. Hull #09 of the venerable Alibi 54 line is a pleasant surprise to today’s long term delivery schedules of performance catamarans. This is a brand-new boat complete with all pertinent warranties. Please watch the video for full details.

Performance catamaran aficionados will be familiar with the Alibi 54. For those learning of the brand for the first time here is a brief synopsis. From 2009 to 2018 (7) Alibi 54’s were constructed for discerning owners worldwide. Each differed ever-so-slightly from the previous depending on individual owner’s requirements. In 2017 the previous ownership went out of business. In 2021, the new owner, who is in the High-End Asian Adventure Tourism

Industry, has assembled a world class team. This includes a production manager who previously built hull number 08 for a discerning European family who have both regatta and cruising programs. Hull number 09 (now 55.5') utilizes and has the benefit of top-flight internationally acclaimed designers, engineers, and production management. “09” is about 3⁄4 of the way completed and is financed as an internal project with all timelines and goals being met. As an owner’s choice, several items remain available before expected sea trials early 2024 if requested reasonably soon. A suggested owner option sheet will be forthcoming.

Alibi Hull 09 ticks all the right boxes for an owner desiring a quick and comfortable, well built, daggerboard catamaran. The deck, sub-structure, reinforcements, mast, boom, longeron, crossbeam, and martingale are all constructed in carbon fiber. The hulls are sandwich construction of hi-tech PVC foam and E-glass with epoxy resin. This boat is being built to CE and ISO compatibility and standards. With the e-glass hulls, the boat fits into most catamaran broader insurance programs. Overall estimated weight is 13,400kg making this boat quick and responsive. This is a conservative estimate pending final lightship weight.

Extended cruising on a performance catamaran begs for certain features and amenities. Regatta racing demands certain capabilities. Combining the two exists only in a certain playing field. The Alibi 54 is one of those players.

Features and amenities people are looking for are:

1) Good visibility in a variety of conditions and this is accomplished by a low-profile easy to see over house, raised helms with articulating wheels with side deck and behind the wheel seating.

2) Comfortable external seating such as perch seats forward, bridge deck seating, comfortable cockpit lounges, and large swim platforms.

3) Features for everyday liveaboard including great ventilation, open and airy living spaces, abundance of light and lighting.

4) Storage for each crew and all their activities.

5) Inside and outside food preparation including transom fish and food prep work tables. 6) Room for folding bicycles, paddleboards, scuba gear and more.

Alibi 5409 has these.

Regarding the demanding performance sailor:

1. Outboard asymmetric canted daggerboards.

2. Daggerboards controlled by aft mounted line drivers (with ability to quickly convert to manual operation if needed.

3. Lines led aft for short-handed sailing.

4. Ability to fly a variety of hi-tech sails in a multitude of conditions with a low center of gravity sail plan.

Gear and capability aside, one of the most important qualities will be reliability. Alibi 5409 achieves this through careful selection of industry known, ocean tested equipment and the appropriate implementation of that equipment. Just because a certain new technology makes its way on the scene does not necessarily mean it should be deployed. A balance of 21stcentury tech and simplicity increase the fun to servicing ratio. Wisdom is gained from previous experience and legacy builds. As interesting as they were, dependability of clever yet exotic systems, such as the retracting props, cassette rudders, movable ballast system have been removed for reliability and simplicity on “09”. In lieu of complex propulsion systems the Yanmar 4JH 57HP was chosen for its renown reliability, ease of service and support, and excellent reputation. The dinghy or tender is now located on davits aft for immediate secured deployment. The interior has been tweaked as per owners’ input. The salon and galley optimized for liveaboard. The cockpit design gains from miles and miles underway and months aboard. The transoms on “09” are now slightly extended and the rewards come both in both additional room and added performance.

DESIGN SYNOPSIS & CONSTRUCTION

The Alibi 55.5 Mach 2.0 sports graceful feminine curves in appearance and masculine strength and purpose with its performance. Fast, sporty, and a sailor’s catamaran Alibi 5409 is the most refined of its sisterships. This wind-speed capable performance catamaran has a pleasant proportional look and feel to the design.

The interior combines form and function. A 3+1 or 4-cabin layout allows for owner, VIP guest, kids, and crew quarters. The owner’s cabin is spacious with appropriate storage and privacy. The guest cabin features the same size berth as the owner’s cabin (a queen) and also features ample storage.
