Construction

RCD Status: Our understanding is that the yacht is exempt from the essential safety requirements of the Recreational Craft Directive as she was built and placed into use within the EU prior to 1998.

 

Flag & Registration:

  • Malta registry – private pleasure yacht.
  • VAT paid (in Malta, under former owner).

 

Hull, Deck & Superstructure Construction:

  • GRP sandwich construction above and below waterline with solid GRP in way of fin keel and skeg areas.
  • The two skins and the solid laminate are believed to be built of hand laid GRP. The core material is reported as Divinycell. There are seven watertight compartments.
  • GRP / Divinycell cored deck and superstructure, with teak laid over; and including cockpit sole and seating.
  • Teak deck – we believe was new 2012 (under former owner) and refitted 2020 in Spain with the other works.
  • Substantial teak bulwarks.
  • Interior structure of deck-heads includes fore and aft cedar battening and laminated mahogany and holly beams and half-beams.
  • White hull with red trim lines. We believe she was last painted 2014.

 

Note: CAPRICE was built as “Swedish Caprice” for Jan-Eric Osterlund, a Swedish businessman. He sailed the yacht each summer and owned her until 2023.

The builder yard was “Jacobsen Brothers” (later builder of Fantasi Yachts). She was then owned by two other Swedish men.

 

Keel & Rudder:

  • Shallow integrally moulded fin-keel fitted at its bottom with a bolted cast-lead ballast.
  • Partly balanced rudder is hung on a stainless-steel rudderstock and additionally supported by a short skeg integrally moulded to the hull.
  • Twin wheel steering.
  • Emergency tiller.

Machinery

Engine & Gearboxes:

  • 2 x Yanmar 4JH 110 ZF25 110hp/81kW – both were new in 2020.
  • New Aquadrive transmissions – 2020.

 

Maintenance & Performance:

  • Engine hours – approx. 500 as of May 2023.
  • Engine last serviced – May 2022.
  • Cruising speed – approx. 8 knots @ 2000 rpm.
  • Maximum speed – approx. 10/11 knots.
  • Fuel consumption at cruising speed of 7 knots – approx. 4 litres per hour per engine.

Description of layout from forwards:

 

Crew Cabin:

  • From starboard guest cabin a door forward leads to crew cabin.
  • Joinery is the same as the guest cabins.
  • The cabin may be used as crew cabin or guest/child cabin.
  • Upper and lower berths on port side.
  • Lockers and drawers: all the starboard side of cabin is storage, plus drawer under the bed.
  • Large fore-hatch, which extends over the whole standing area, also provides direct access to the deck.

 

Starboard Guest Cabin:

  • Entered from the forward passageway, next to the day head and the door to the port guest cabin.
  • Twin cabin with upper and lower berths.
  • Direct access into the head/shower forward of the port guest cabin, via a door through the central partition.

 

Forward Head/Shower:

  • Access through a door at the fore end of the port guest and from starboard guest cabin.
  • Varnished mahogany joinery.
  • Teak sole grating.
  • Washbasin.

Galley:

  • To port.
  • Mahogany cupboard/worktop units.
  • Gimballed cooker is installed in an outboard recess and protected by a crash bar.
  • Twin stainless steel sinks.
  • Isotherm fridge installed aft under the counter.
  • 2 x top loading fridges, 1 x top loading freezer.
  • Hull port.
  • Deck hatch.
  • Between the galley and the crew mess is the forward passageway.

 

Main Saloon:

  • Traditional pilot berth to port and right outboard.
  • Cupboard ahead of the berth at the same level.
  • Below the pilot berth, banquette seating around three sides of a mahogany dining table, with one folding leaf on the inboard side, against which two folding chairs may be placed.
  • In the table is a drawer for bottles and in the top is a space for stowage. The top piece turns up to be a drink holder.
  • Green leather upholstery.
  • To starboard is a large mahogany sideboard, with various lockers and drawers, and a 3-shelf open bookcase.
  • Free standing armchair (could be used at table or chart table).
  • New Vitrifrigo wine fridge installed starboard side.
  • Access to the galley and crew mess through a door in the forward bulkhead.

 

Navigation Station:

  • To port at upper saloon level.
  • L-shaped chart table, outboard and forward facing.
  • Computer screen.
  • Radio VHF.
  • Various lockers.
  • Drawers under desk.
  • Chart stowage in desk.
  • Electric panel and various other controls for battery monitoring, gen set, watermaker, fire detection, air conditioning, bilge pumps.

 

Upper Saloon:

  • To starboard of entrance steps.
  • L-shaped banquette seating runs across the aft bulkhead and along the outboard side.
  • Green leather upholstery.
  • Fixed circular coffee table.
  • Various lockers fitted at a high level on the aft bulkhead.
  • Further lockers to starboard side.
  • Lockers under seating and outboard behind sofa.
  • Exceptional headroom (203 to 211cm).
  • Twin main engines installed directly beneath the midships section of the upper saloon sole, which is very heavily sound insulated.

Aft En-suite Head Compartment:

  • Steps between navigation station and main entrance lead down and aft to the door of the owner´s cabin.
  • Upon entering owner´s cabin, door to the right accesses the en-suite head compartment.

  • Vanity top with washbasin and outboard cupboard with mirrored doors.
  • Separate shower stall with teak sole grating.
  • Headroom in shower is 246cm.

Owner´s Cabin:

  • Full beam spacious master suite with lots of natural light, ventilation and a “cosy” feel.
  • Study area at forward end, with a library, 5 x glass fronted lockers, drawers and lockers under.
  • Proper working desk to starboard.
  • Across to port is a drawer chest with locker outboard, and next to it a full-length mirror.
  • Centrally positioned mahogany ring frame forms a notable feature of the cabin, separating the study area from the aft sleeping/relaxing area.
  • Double berth to port.
  • Generous settee to starboard.
  • Oval shaped coffee table by settee.
  • Many lockers fitted beneath the berth, at a high level on the aft bulkhead and outboard of the berth.
  • Various lockers fitted outboard of settee.
  • Hull port fitted alongside the berth.
  • Hull port on starboard side by desk.
  • 2 x coaming ports, 1 over head and 1 by desk.
  • 4 x coaming ports in aft area of cabin.
  • 4 x deck prisms.
  • Between settee and berth at aft bulkhead, two steps lead up to a watertight door, which gives access into the generator room.

 

Generator Room:

  • Access from the aft deck, or alternatively and more comfortably by hinging back the aft coach-roof section in which the hatch is mounted.
  • In bad weather, access through the watertight door from the owner’s cabin.
  • The space serves as a workshop and is fitted with a bench and a vice.
  • Washbasin.
  • Wood bench seat.
  • Many wood drawers, cupboards etc. for storage of spares and tools.
  • Systems installed here include the Frigomar inverter chiller unit, Newport watermaker, Victron Galvanic isolator, and generator (in a sound shield).

Deck Equipment

Rig:

  • Keel-stepped Reckmann 3-spreader white-painted aluminium mast with in-mast furling and hydraulic power pack.
  • Reckmann aluminium, white-painted boom.
  • Standing rigging stainless-steel wire (believed to be from 2013).
  • Rod forestays.

  • 2 x Furlex Selden furling units for genoa and job, operated from hydraulic power pack.

  • Stainless-steel double rail bow pulpit.
  • Tapered stainless steel stanchions, with guard wires.
  • Stanchions to port and starboard provide boarding gates.
  • Aft coachroof fitted with the mainsheet track at forward end.
  • Spacious aft deck, with a stowage compartment.
  • Stainless steel “goal post” at stern with stainless steel davit arms to hold/lift the tender.
  • Stainless steel side boarding ladder.
  • Alloy and teak passerelle.

 

Cockpit:

  • Cockpit is fitted at a slightly raised level from the main deck. Its forward end is protected by a high “breakwater”, set on the forward coachroof, and surmounted by a stainless-steel framed sprayhood.
  • Large fixed bimini extends over the entire cockpit from the “breakwater” to aft coaming with stainless steel frame and lighting.
  • Aft extensions of the coach house side coamings protect the two steering positions: each set in a forward corner, to either side of the main hatch to the accommodation.
  • Steering wheels are set on square pedestals against the coach-house aft bulkhead and provided with compass binnacles. Dished, teak slatted, stainless steel helmsman’s seats - adjustable for fore and aft position, and easily removable.
  • Adjacent to the starboard wheel is a Garmin autopilot control box, and twin single lever engine controls, plus control panels for Yanmar engines, MaxPower bowthruster, exterior lights, and windlass controls.
  • On the port side of the cockpit adjacent to the wheel, are press-button controls for furling of mainsail; genoa; yankee and staysail.
  • Plastimo compass at each helm.
  • Garmin GPS plotter in front of starboard helm in stainless steel fronted locker.
  • Amidships, and above the sliding entry hatch cover, is a row of Garmin instrument repeaters and VHF.
  • Fusion cockpit speakers.
  • Aft section of the cockpit arranged in a U-shape, with excellent seating.
  • Varnished teak cockpit table, adjustable height, folding leaves port and starboard.
  • Waeco free standing chest fridge in cockpit under port seat, with lines and fittings to tie it down.

 

Anchoring & Mooring Equipment:

  • 2 x Quick 220V anchor windlasses – both rebuilt 2020. Controls at bow and cockpit.
