About this Wharram Tiki 46

English

Kalisumi is a 3 cabin version of these Polynesian inspired designed boats. The Wharram Tiki 46.Her interior is simple and functional and has everything you need for a simple salty lifestyle on the ocean. The construction of this Wharram 46 is a Composition of Marine Seala Ply and red Cedar, glass and epoxy, resulting in a very strong constructional integrity, all held together by rope. This non rigid construction means there is the necessary flexibility, a feature that is needed in a Catamaran. For those who have little or no idea of who James Wharram was here is a link to his Web Site and designs for more information. Https://www. Wharram. Com/articles/choosing-a-boatThese cats have sailed oceans. The current owners were extremely particular about this type of design and determined to spend at least a year sailing with their children. The plan had always been to spend a year while their pre-teen/young teenage children could enjoy the experience and the cultural immersion before they return to France for some serious high schooling. They have had an amazing time. Mostly along the West Coast of Thailand, and Malaysia. They have made some major consistent upkeeps which come with owning a wooden boat of this sort, and a large amount of wood repair has directly influenced the current very good standard of this boat.In their ownership they have upgraded the refrigeration system, they added water filtration in the galley, secondary ground tackle was added, the sails were overhauled and repaired as needed by Rolly Tasker in Phuket, and the port engine has been overhauled. The owner admits there is still an issue with the starboard engine. He's open to discussion about this.Notes from the Owners:"KALISUMI makes a wonderful catamaran for a family or small group of people that want to sail around SE Asia or further as these Wharrams a proven record of sailing big oceans. She offers a lot of space and represents low tech with still the ability to make your own water, electricity, and to keep fresh food cool. You can also anchor close to shore and go toshore within minutes from dropping the anchor. We fell in love with this Wharram 46, for her beautiful lines and her simplicity. We wanted to try catamaran and Wharrams offers advantages and comfort of catamaran for the price of a monohull. After a great year spent in Asia on such a friendly sailing boat, the fact remains that our teens now miss friends and school in France. So, regretfully, we decided to bring our adventure to a halt. "Extremely unique and outstanding in their designs, Wharrams are sought after and coveted. Whilst not for everyone, if it is a lifestyle like this that you are after, we look forward to supplying you with more information. She is currently in Langkawi, an island group on the West Coast of Malaysia, bordering on the Andaman Sea and Thailand.A duty free island, buying a boat here is simple, and Tax free. The enormous opening hatches, fitted with studs, offer lots of air and light and sleeping under the stars is fabulous. Mosquito nets for all cabins, in case anchored close to the shore or in a port. Both port cabins have a toilet / Handwash basin, mirror, blackwater tanks 80 lt.Port Hull: The bilges in each cabin have a dedicated automatic bilge pump and the water tank (300 Lt) has a water pressure pump under the aft port cabin bed. The walls are white and clean and the seven step stairs have anti slip.Starboard Hull:Starboard aft, a large stall shower with bench, all painted with satin finish white epoxy for easy cleaning. Galley

Galley: Forward of the shower room we have the galley with a 110 lt. Haier fridge on 12V, properworkspace. A double sink and a three-burner electric starting hop on gas. Water filtation system installed inoctober 2023 with dedicated faucet. A dedicated automatic bilge pump. The forward bilge is emptied into the galley bilge as well. This can be stopped by turning a large lever. There is plenty of storage space in the galley and large opening hatches for fresh air.Cutlery / crockery / kitchen utensils / pots & pans etc. Etc. Hand held hoover, electric rice cooker, three 220V electric outlets. The galley settee can easily be converted, with in fill cushions, to a comfortable third cabin if you like to travel with six sleeping in comfort. Reading lights, ventilator and shelves make this a comfortable equal size cabin.Storage: Forward of the galley there is the storage space for all boat equipment including the Rainman 140 Lt. Water maker. This equipment requires more power than the batteries provide so I have a Honda 2,2 Kw generator that gets plugged into the system and inside the storage space is a 220V power point where I plug in the Rainman. After starting the Honda on deck, it takes little time to put two hoses overboard and one into a fresh water tank. There is a pre- construction to hook up a water heater. The tankage in the starboard hull is found under the galley / settee floor and holds 600 Lt. See pictures. The water pressure pump is located right there.

Ground Tackle

One 12 V - 1200 Watt electric windlass with gypsy (dedicated fuse). Main anchor is ROCNA Vulcain of 25 kg. Immediately setting and very efficient. Tested during more than 150 anchorage night by us.With a 65 m marked 10mm chain in a dedicated bun right next to the foremast, two more buns formooring lines and made to measure bridle. Kedge anchor is Brittany type anchor 20kg plus 20m chain 10mm plus 25m cablet.New nets for the forward section in '22/'23.Following some water infiltration at the bridge, parts of the bridge were redone in Phuket in January 2024 (Phuket Interwood work). The boat is now in good condition. An epoxy wooden boat is very nice, very easy to repair and modify but requires love and supervision.

Fan and Hatch added in january 2024. Under the floor of the pod is ample space for spares / tools.

Sail Inventory

Sail area, 96 mt. Dacron built by Rolly Tasker ; checked and serviced by Rolly Tasker in January 2024.Schooner rigged 46 ft yacht that is called to be fast under the Wharrams. 7.3 tons per her builders certificate. The total sail area is 91 mt. The mainsail and schooner sail are equal in size, each with a gaff.Genoa on a Harken furler, managed from the aft deck.

Mast / Rigging

Running rigging: All sheets / Halyards / blocks are in good working order and sailing is easy on this yacht. Putting up the mainsail makes all the difference in performance and with windspeeds of over 12 knots this should not be too tight or she will luff more than needed. I found it easy to balance the boat so that the wheel hardly needs to be adjusted. She likes a good breeze and tends to track well.Dedicated two speed winches on the coam-ings of the cockpit. On the aft coam-ings we find the winch forthe mainsail. There are covers for the sails as well as a large tent over the forward cockpit, all the same colour.
