A sail sloop is a type of sailboat with an enlarged head sail, allowing for more speed and manoeuvrability. Generally, a sailing sloop is a single-masted vessel, outfitted with at least two fore-and-aft sails. A sloop typically has a centre cockpit with a jib, the main sail, the jib and a boom. The boom helps the sailor keep the sails parallel to the wind line while sailing. Some sail sloops also feature a spinnaker or gennaker, which can give extra speed and manoeuvrability on sailboats that are shorter and lighter than larger vessels. Sail sloops are smaller and faster than larger sailing vessels, making them perfect for remote ocean passages or coastal cruising.
Manufacturers that produce sloop sail boats include Beneteau, Bavaria, Jeanneau, Dufour and Hanse.
