The Treub is a rare, open sailboat designed immediately after World War I. It takes its name from a tax measure introduced by Finance Minister Treub, aimed at boats with a sail area of 16 m² or more. To avoid this tax, the Treub was built with a sail area just below this limit, namely 15.99 m². However, this tax led to the sale of much larger sailing yachts to foreign countries, which hit the Dutch yacht building industry hard. Although the tax raised little, the economic damage was great. The Treub tax was abolished in 1942 during World War II, but a new opulence tax immediately followed, remaining in effect until 1955. The Treub itself, a teak sailboat of over 7 meters with a unique curved laminated mast, is related to the Dragon, Rainbow and Pampus classes. The last owner of the "Sturgeon" sailed the boat frequently until his death in 2022. Since then the boat has been in storage and has not been used, although the boat is still in good condition.
