About this SOLARIS SUNBEAM 24

English

This is something a bit special!

Only 24ft long - but much more spacious than many 35 footers - and presented in apparently exceptional condition by her one and only owner from new.

Designed by the (recently) late catamaran legend Derek Kelsall, and built in 1990 by Solaris Yachts in Southampton this boat was brought here to Preston Marina directly from the factory and has cruised the challenging waters of the Irish Sea by her owner (who, by the way, was a navigation officer on super-tankers by profession), taking in North Wales and the Isle Of Man. Her shallow draft and ability to easily dry-out creating useful options when cruising these waters.

She was sailed short or single-handed much of the time - her compact size, layout and rig making her very manageable, but for a family afloat the cockpit is large and deep with excellent protection - with fully surrounding guard rails, wide side decks - and an un-cluttered foredeck you could almost play a football match on (please don't try!) - and again - she is only 24ft long!

And also consider this....the owner reported to me that, on a down-wind run back from the Isle of Man once, she made 15 knots over the ground! My own twin diesel engine motor boat can't even do that - but burns a lot of fuel trying!

Some bulletpoints...

2 x double berths (one in each hull)

Full standing head room in each hull (Galley and aft berth in starboard hull, and nav station, (large) WC heads and double berth in port hull)

Centre area has a comfortable U shaped dinette (crouching headroom- ample when seated) - can be used as an extra berth.

Galley - pressurised cold waster system to sink.. ORIGO spirit cooker AND oven (no gas to worry about on board! - these ORIGO systems are highly desirable and safer than gas, especially these days now that obtaining gas is getting more difficult)

Yamaha 9.9hp 4 stroke electic start outboard - approx 40 genuine hours run. Approx 3.5 litres per hour consumption 3 x portable tanks safely stored aboard - total approx 60 litres. Will motor to approx 6 knots. VETUS hydraulic wheel steering.

STANDARD HORIZON suite of electronics with a CPN 700i GPS Chartplotter, GX 2200EDSC Radio with AIS receiver and remote command mic at helm. Plastimo steering compass. INCASTEC sounder and log.

The elecrical system is from 2 x 100Ah batteries with a primary engine battery and a domestic battery controlled via a smart charging system. The access to the electrical system and master circuits is in the main saloom behind the helm - and is so neat and tidy it is incredibly easy to monitor and maintain.

Sea toilet with holding-tank (with electric pump and manual pump discharge). Wash basin in heads (WC) compartment with pressurised cold water tap.

Furling Jib in very good order - recent UV strip.

Mainsail - slab reefs - all in very good order.

Standing rigging all approx 6 years old.

4 person liferaft - in service date to September 2024.

2 x Fortress anchors, warps, fenders, radar reflector.

She needs to be seen to be fully appreciated....
