"Gorami" 1938

About this ship.
The "Gorami" had construction number 362 and was delivered to the client J. Duppen in August 1938. It was a wooden motor cruiser of the so-called suitcase deck type, built to a design by H.W. de Voogt.
The dimensions were: length 15 meters, width 3.50 m and draft 1 meter.

The wooden hull consisted of a double planked skin, diagonally carved. The inner skin was of 8 mm Russian oak and was riveted to the outer skin with red copper boat nails, 5 nails in each pane each time.
The outer skin was above the waterline of 10 mm Tabasco mahogany, below the waterline of 10 mm teak. Between the two skins was a covering of finely woven and impregnated cotton cloth, thickly watered in teak pulp.

The frames and floors were of aluminum (Burma Bright Aluminum) and the longitudinal frames of oak. The keel beam and prow were of Russian oak.

The rudder was of cast bronze in streamline form.
The engine was a Kermath Sea King engine of 100 hp with a three-blade bronze Hyde propeller. A speed of 26 km per hour was to be achievable.

Construction history
On July 27, 1937, the contract between Mr. Van Duppen and the shipyard was signed and during the work week from August 7 to August 13, 1937, construction began. Construction on this motor yacht did not continue continuously, which is why it was not completed until September 1938.
One photo of the "Gorami" can be found in the yard archives, taken after the launching in the summer of 1938.
