ELECTRICS
Significant upgrading, replacement and simplification of original. Lots of new wiring (all battery and lots of interconnect) using tinned copper wire to marine specification. Replacement of many fuse holders which were showing age. All internal lights (62 in total) were replaced with LED’s, and the external navigation lights are all now LED lights.

The boat now operated purely from 24v, using a number of redundant convertors for 12v. For example, a convertor at 12v for LED’s lights, one at 12.7V for 12v domestic supply, one for radios, one for 12v battery charging. Any one convertor could provide all 12v needs in the event of failure. All convertors are Victron convertors independently fused.

In September 2018 a Lithium (LifePo4) battery system was fitted. The system is 400ah at 24V, providing a significant increase in usable capacity over the old Lead batteries. The Lithium batteries are fitted with a BMS which automatically controls all charging sources and the inverter. Therefore their operation is fully automated. Using the Victron Quattro 24/120/5000 all electrical items on the boat can be run from the batteries (e.g. hairdryer, washing machine, microwave, kettle etc.). New fuses at batteries, and distribution to match US and UK best practices. New battery isolator for main 24v which ensures that the alternator cannot operate if the batteries are isolated.

Mastervolt 24v 150ah alternator together with smart controller.

900 watts of 24V Mono solar panels from Victron. Victron MPPT controller manages power. A stern arch was professionally designed to hold the solar panels and other cruising gear. Full CAD plans were created, and a post installation technical report. The arch was fabricated by a boat builder in Scotland and fitted onboard in three section by professional boat builders. The arch integrates useful features such as a davit to allow the 20HP engine to be easily fitted and removed from the RIB

Victron Quatro 24v 120ah battery charger combined with 5KW invertor. Can automatically switch 240v power from Generator, Shore Power (32a) and invertor. Can also ‘top up’ from weak shore power.

240v distribution upgraded with RCD’s (RCBOs) to make safe and protect all 240v systems (240v installed by qualified electrician)

Victron battery controller and Victron Colour Controller. Provide full battery monitoring, integrate the Victron Multi and MPPT controls. Can provide full remote power monitoring over the internet.

2 Optima Yellow AGM starter batteries. Isolator for engine and generator start. Generator battery charged by genset alternator, engine start battery on constant charge by dedicated 24/12v convertor.

Cruisair Reverse cycle 49000 BTU air-conditioning - Five units (one for each cabin area). High pressure water pump renewed. The largest two units were replaced 16,000BTU Cruisair units fitted in Saloon and master suite.

All internal lights (60 in total) converted to 12v LED bulbs. This is powered by a dedicated 24-12v Victron convertor ensuring a stable 12v supply for the long life of the LEDs whist still being powered from the 24v battery bank. LED lights in galley, chart table, galley and crew cabin can switch between white and red for night usage.
