English

Quite possibly the coolest yacht on the planet and certainly one of the fastest. Marrying blistering performance under sail with epic Swedish build-quality and luxury interiors for comfortable cruising, LADYKILLER ticks all the boxes for a multi-purpose performance cruiser.

FURTHER BROKER’S COMMENTS:

LADYKILLER is a factory-owned and maintained example of the Oscar & Håkan Södergren designed Shogun 50 performance cruiser, constructed in collaboration with Linjett Yachts in Sweden.

The boat is the brainchild of Mats Bergryd, a racing sailor and businessman who previously owned a Club Swan 50. He was dissatisfied with certain elements of that boat and therefore decided to create his own vision of the ideal racer/cruiser. He therefore teamed up with Linjett Yachts, the oldest and arguably most respected and conservative yacht manufacturer in Sweden, to produce an all carbon speed monster that you could also take cruising.

Used lightly for locally-based racing and cruising, and always wintered ashore under cover, this highly innovative and exhilarating-to-sail performance yacht boasts a complete specification and is ready to go.

Her specification highlights include:-

• Carbon fibre and epoxy sandwich construction

• Teak veneer racing deck

• Axe bow profile with integral spray sails

• Telescopic 2.00m-3.30m T-keel with carbon fibre blade and lead bulb

• Marstrom carbon fibre mast and boom

• Carbon fibre rod standing rigging

• Hydraulic mast-jack

• Full North racing sail wardrobe with 3Di square-top mainsail, jib, staysails, spinnakers, asymmetric and Code Zeros.

• Antal electric mainsail traveller

• Load-cell displays for backstays

• Reckman hydraulics for jib/ inner jib cunninghams, vang, outhaul and top deflectors

• Antal winches in cockpit plus additional Harken electric halyard/control line winches at companionway

• Jefa steering with twin carbon wheels

• Titanium pulpit, pushpit and guardwire stanchions

• Mastervolt electrics with 5kw Lithium-Ion service battery bank, charger and inverter

• B&G instruments with plotters, autopilot, H5000 system and AIS transceiver

• Eberspacher heating

• Full galley equipment

• Carbon fibre electric heads

• Fusion stereo system

MANUFACTURER’S COMMENTS:

Want to go faster?

Designed to always be ahead, the Shogun 50 is the yacht for you who want to go faster and be out in front.

Her speed comes from the lightweight carbon structure and daring design – her overall weight is only 7 900 kg – 45% of which is found in the keel bulb. She has a retractable keel, with a blade made of carbon, which allows the draft to decrease from 3.3m to 2m.

Large twin rudders keep the Shogun 50 steady and safe in the water, she is almost impossible to wipe out. Thanks to the mast being so far aft, the increased foretriangle allows plenty of headsail options to choose from depending on the conditions and occasion. Just like a skiff, she also has an extendable bowsprit, making her a real blast to sail.

Boasting all the equipment and features required for full-on offshore racing, she responds very well to trim and tuning. Sail management is made simple thanks to the large cockpit and a spacious area down the companionway below deck. In addition, you have a 2m3 storage locker in the bow.

Cruising in Comfort

Below deck the Shogun 50 is cosy with a beautiful oak finish, handcrafted by experienced Swedish carpenters, that creates a warm and welcoming atmosphere. Underneath the wood veneer, the interior is built in using a carbon fibre laminate sandwich construction with a divinycell core. Comfort is key.

The standard layout has the salon in the bow, and two identical double aft cabins. Ideal for a couple or a family of four. This layout emphasizes luxurious and open communal spaces for everyone to gather.

In the bow a large u-shaped couch wraps around the dining table, which is overlooked by a galley divided into two sections to allow multiple cooks. In a clever design trick, the stove and sink are located at the centre of the yacht, which makes the keel drum a back support when cooking at sea.

The chart table and heads are located to starboard opposite a spacious area for easy sail management. The double berth cabins are located at the very aft, with cushioned hull sides to create a relaxing and comfortable environment. This layout is ideal for a weekend cruise in the archipelago, or for racing.

The double berth aft cabins feature cushioned hull sides to create a relaxing and comfortable environment.

Shallow Stability

Our shallow hull is slightly narrower than other yachts around 50ft in order to allow the Shogun 50 to better navigate the tight nooks and hidden gems of the archipelago.

The keel blade is specifically designed for performance in shallower waters. Made entirely out of carbon, with no ballast function, the construction of the yacht allows for 45% of the total weight to be located in the bulb (3 600kg of a total 7 900kg) giving her incredible righting moment.

For even more stability and upwind efficiency, the Shogun 50 has a 3.3m draft. To allow passage in shallower waters, the retractable keel lifts to a draft of a mere 2 meters with the simple push of a button. The carbon keel drum and keel blade are constructed by Marstrom Composites.

Carbon & Epoxy Construction

Through the entire production of the hull and deck, state-of-the-art materials and methods are applied, using selected carbon fibre and vacuum injected epoxy on a sandwich core.

Flexible & Customised Sailplan

With a total sail area of 138.5m2, the Shogun’s sail plan has been designed and optimized to harness enough speed and power for your style of sailing: whether sailing short-handed or with a full crew. It is designed to maximize performance without compromising on ease and flexibility. A Shogun should first and foremost always feel fun to sail – and we believe we have made that happen.

Unlike other yachts around 50ft, the Shogun 50 has torn up the conventional Scandinavian sail plan rule book. Previously, self-tacking jibs were considered too small or not performance oriented enough – not anymore! In a break from tradition, we have chosen self-tacking jibs for the Shogun 50.

We have made a bold move and repositioned the mast which radically increased the foretriangle base, allowing an effective self-tacking jib. Our modern, square top mainsail is still large enough to harness enough power to drive the boat forward, and nimble enough for adequate tuning. The fact we also have a large overlapping headsail boosting the maximum speed significantly beyond the ORC letter’s estimated speed, is simply a bonus.

Sleek Lines & Spray Rails

As much as she is a thrilling joy to sail, the Shogun 50 is also an example of extraordinary design. She has definitive lines purposely created to make her stand out and if you ask the designer, you will learn they are also there for good reason. The spray rails and a negative bow provides performance and comfort – the essence of every Shogun yacht. The spray rails limit the amount of water on deck, while the bow shape gives the hull a longer water line, increasing performance. The sleek line of the bow has been carefully designed to continue the angle of the forestay, giving the Shogun 50 a smooth and contemporary design that stands out.

DESIGNERS’S COMMENTS:

With Shogun 50, we wanted to eliminate the boundaries between hull and deck and bring them together in an organic form. By designing them as one unit, we have created a form that floats from the transom all the way through the negative bow and into the water. There are still some parts of the yacht that we wanted to break loose, and we have allowed the superstructure to do that with a shaded port light along the entire side and a shade-edging above. The cabin top then becomes suspended on top.

PRESS REVIEW:

World Class Design.

A 50-foot yacht with attitude that can be sailed efficiently doublehanded – the Shogun 50 is lightweight and exhilarating to sail. It is designed to be easy to sail during a weekend cruise and on the racecourse, doublehanded or with a full crew.

With sleek, aggressive lines and impeccably balanced ratios, the Shogun 50 boasts exclusive design features, including a retractable keel for shallow water and spray rails to prevent a wet deck. The position of the mast and the layout of the interior has been optimised for performance and comfort, making the Shogun 50 a shining example of Swedish craftsmanship working together with innovative technology and modern sailing solutions.

“Even at the berth, the Shogun is a beast: with aggressive and, at the same time, elegantly flowing lines, even the teak deck follows the contour of the hull. The extreme lightweight construction combines spectacular sailing performance with exquisite workmanship. The 50ft made of full carbon weighs just 7.9 tons despite the lifting keel. That is almost 500 kg less than a Club Swan 50. In order to keep the weight low despite the lifting keel and cosy interior fittings, Shogun Yachts has engaged everything that has a reputation in Swedish high-tech boat building.”
