PLEASE HELP US TO INSPIRE
Wetwheels Solent is launching its Adventures Appeal to enable 600 local people to have a truly special experience with us, asking for supporters to donate to the £45 cost for each participant.
Those who come onboard have a range of disabilities and complex health needs, they might require help to improve their mental health, self-confidence and well-being, or support in times of loneliness and sadness.
Wetwheels Solent builds people’s confidence and brings joy to the spirit, by providing the opportunity to access the sea in a fun, stimulating and rewarding way using a specially modified, fully accessible powerboat. Our adventurous trips afloat are staffed by specialists who ensure each person can share experiences, challenge their self-perceptions, and discover new opportunities.
Here at Wetwheels Solent, we are fortunate to have a wonderful place in the hearts of so many, at the centre of our community. We have the ability to inspire, to enable and empower all who come onboard, supporting those from any background, their families, teachers and carers.
But more than ever, we need your support. We are launching our ‘Maritime Adventures Appeal’. We would be delighted to hear from any individual, company, community group or other organisation who would consider contributing to this cost of our summer operation - and make such a huge difference to the lives of so many. And we are already planning for 2019 where the need will be just as great, if not greater.
For summer into early autumn, our busiest time of year, for our Maritime Adventures project combined with other trips:
- We will welcome 600 local people onboard Wetwheels with a range of disabilities, illness and health problems
- Total cost £27,000 - £45 per person.
There is no ‘magic money tree’, we rely completely on the generosity of our friends and supporters to raise every penny. We cannot continue in our work without that support.
This not-for-profit cost includes the provision of the best levels of support, health and safety, as well as the highest quality maintenance, equipment, training, and fuel.
“It was a fantastic experience and being allowed to drive Wetwheels was amazing, the freedom of being on open water was exhilarating with all my landly troubles melting away. I proved to myself I CAN do things and instead of watching other people have fun I was able to take part”.
Katy, aged 16
We work with such wonderful charities as Naomi House and Jacksplace hospices, and The Rose Road Association supporting young disabled people, and many more across the City and region. With our new Maritime Adventures project and the unique experiences for learning on the water, there are so many opportunities to grow. But without the kind and generous support from our friends and donors, we cannot achieve our future aims and aspirations, and help support more inspirational people like Katy.
How you can help If you are hosting an event or selecting to support a charity over the coming weeks we would be hugely grateful if you were to consider Wetwheels Solent. Through our JustGiving page as well as donating quickly and safely, you can also set-up a regular monthly donation. Or please do share news of our Appeal and introduce someone new to the wonder of Wetwheels!
Our small but dedicated team, led by Geoff and Karen, are always available to come and chat to you, discuss how we can support you in your fundraising, and talk about the wonderful journey we have taken and why it is so important to do more.
"There is something special about being on the water, and how it brings people together, opening up so many new ideas, possibilities and dreams. Had I not had those dreams, I would not have achieved what I have. But we need your help to continue our journey."
