World Windsurfing Week: get involved, learn how to surf & win great prices
World Windsurfing Week goes international: between 1st and 9th of May, the world windsurfing week will take place all over the world for the first time! During this week, windsurfers all over the globe will be organising activities for new windsurfers. After two successful Windsurfing Weeks in the UK in 2008 and 2009, the movement is now international. Schools, clubs and centers will offer courses, workshops, contests, testivals, parties, BBQs and a lot more.
Windsurfing is becoming more popular
Bjorn Dunkerbeck himself, world champion of 36 times and the world’s most successful windsurfer, is spokesperson of this world-wide project: „everybody can learn how to surf! With the modern equipment, taking up windsurfing is easy and that’s what we want to show people”. Due to new boards and sails, a lot of people have started to windsurf in the past years.
But it is also new disciplines that have awoken the interest of many. Freestyling, for example, is a new, revolutionary trend that a lot of youngsters have been following. Freestyle windsurfing can be done anywhere, even in shallow waters at a lake nearby. Besides, more and more women have followed the trend and have taken up windsurfing – the new equipment is much easier to handle. A beginners’ course takes approximately three days – back in the old days it took a week.
Windsurfing: enthusiastic & interactive
This is the message that will be spread by the community during World Windsurfing Week. The idea was born by enthusiastic surfers that want to give all kinds of people access to their sport. They therefore organise courses, workshops, get togethers and other activities to get friends, family and anyone who’s interested windsurfing. The events can be designed any way they wish – everything is possible as long as it’s fun!
