Launched to the boating public in 1969, the Westerly Centaur was a great success due to her good sized cockpit, excellent headroom below decks and her reasuring sailing performance. With around 2,500 built, there are more Centaurs around than any other British made yacht. Accommodation for 6 with a forecabin V berth and saloon berths layout. Linear galley with oven and two burner hob, separate heads with Air-Head waterless composting toilet.
Construction
GRP hull in yellow with painted yellow topcoat. Large self bailing cockpit with storage locker. Bilge keels (0.91m draft), spade rudder with tiller steering.
Mechanicals
Powered by a Volvo Penta MDIIC, 23hp Inboard diesel engine with shaft driven fixed three bladed propeller. Engine charges the twin 12V batteries (2022) along with a solar charger. Engine had a top end rebuild and new alternator fitted around 2021 and was last serviced 2023.
Rigging & Sails
Masthead rigged Bermudan Sloop with deck stepped alloy mast and spars. Stainless steel standing rigging and Terylene running rigging. Lazyjacks fitted.
- Slab or roller boom reefing mainsail by Arun with sail cover - said to be in "good condition"
- Roller furling headsail with UV strip by Arun - said to be in "good condition"
- Spare set of sails said to be in "fair condition"
Accommodation
Spacious below decks for its time with accommodation for 6. There are 2 berths in the forepeak cabin, 2 quarter berths aft and an additional berth utilising the saloon settee. Separate heads with Air-Head waterless composting toilet and hanging locker opposite.
Dining table and settee seating to port. The dining table has a set of shorter legs which allow a conversion into a second double berth. The galley has a 2-burner gas hob and oven, sink with hand pumped fresh water and plentiful storage. Excellent headroom for a 26 foot boat with 6 feet at the main hatch.
