Construction

RCD Status: The yacht conforms with the essential safety requirements of Directive 94/25EC or RCDII (2013/53/EU as appropriate (Recreational Craft Directive) and is categorised A – “Ocean” (or Cat B – whichever is appropriate)

Hull, Deck & Superstructure Construction:

• Heavy duty GRP hull moulding, hand laid to Discovery's precise laminating system incorporating multi-axial and unidirectional reinforcements.
• Hand laid composite deck sandwich construction using foam core stiffening. The deck is mechanically fastened and bonded to the hull through the entire length and to all main bulkheads resulting in a strong and integrated unit.
• Kevlar reinforcement to bow section, from mast bulkhead, for additional strengthening of hull.
• The keel box is an integral part of the hull lay-up and sandwich construction stiffening runs the entire length of the hull topsides.
• All main bulkheads are bonded and laminated into the hull.
• Arch, stainless steel structure sheathed in GRP with adjustable mainsheet traveller system and down lighters.
• Teak side decks and cockpit.
• Electrically lowered bathing platform with remote.
• Underwater hull lights.
• Storm jib plate.

Keel & Rudder:

• Variable draft keel.
• The fixed ballast is an iron casting which acts as a grounding plate and stiffener for the keel and housing assembly. The aerofoil shaped keel is cast iron and incorporates a stainless-steel pivot at the leading edge.
• The keel is raised and lowered by a Dyneema pennant and hydraulic ram powered by an electrically driven pump with a hand operated back up. All hydraulics are easily accessible.
• Removable stainless-steel pin, positioned to enable the keel to lock in the ‘up’ position.
• Keel control and gauge showing keel position fitted at the helm.
• Semi-balanced twin rudders.
• 36” stainless steel wheel covered in hide x2.
• Emergency tiller.
