Construction

RCD Status: The yacht conforms with the essential safety requirements of Directive 94/25EC or RCDII (2013/53/EU as appropriate (Recreational Craft Directive) and is categorised A – “Ocean” (or Cat B – whichever is appropriate)

 

Hull Construction:

  • Female moulded vinylester resin, vacuum bagged around balsa core.
  • Double isophthalic gel coat finish.
  • Kevlar reinforced below the waterline and full-length stringers.
  • Teak and stainless-steel external trim - teak capping rail.
  • Two watertight bulkheads forward, plus watertight doorway from saloon forward.
  • Hull painted (2021).
  • Hull reinforcement and copper coating around repair by Desty Marine as per Jim Pritchard spec (2023).
  • Propeller anti-fouled with Prop Speed and serviced.

 

Deck Construction:

  • Balsa-cored GRP with moulded bulwark, bolted and glassed deck/hull joint.
  • Overlaid with teak.
  • The keel ballast weight is 9,500kg giving a high ballast ratio of 42.5% with half tanks.

 

Keel & Rudder:

  • Lead cast keel with 3% antimony hardening, through bolted to the hull stub with cast – in stainless steel bolts.
  • The rudder is semi-balanced on a massively reinforced half skeg.
  • The rudder shaft sits in two bearings.
  • The lower one, outside the hull, ordinary braze bearing with two half-shell parts and the upper one a JP3 bearing with flange and needles, aluminium counter plate, flanged composite housing and half rudder tube + ring + seal. Installed in October 2009.
  • Rudder hydraulic: two hydraulic linear drive VHM50, RV3, 24 volts, (Lecomble & Schmitt) autopilots installed in June 2006 and November 2007. One controlled by Simrad AP as from 2024, second as spare.

Machinery

Engine & Gearboxes:

  • 1 x Yanmar 4LHA-HTE, 140hp (103kW) 4-cylinder turbo charged diesel engine.
  • Water cooled with water separator.
  • 2.1:1 Hurth reduction gearbox, additional Separ dual fuel filters.

 

Maintenance & Performance:

  • Engine hours –   2114 as of 03-07-24.
  • Engine serviced: full service with taking it out of the boat January 2013. Serviced 2023 and hoses replaced.
  • Cruising speed – 7-8 knots @ 1800 -1900 rpm.
  • Maximum speed – 9 knots @ 2400 rpm.
  • Fuel consumption at cruising speed – approx. 8 - 10 litres per hour.
  • Range @ cruising speed – approx. 750 Nm.
  • Generator serviced (2023).

 

Propulsion & Steering:

  • A 42” stainless steel wheel controls the Whitlock steering system.
  • Aquadrive coupling, P bracket, Varifold VF – 120, 4 blade folding propeller installed April 2010. Serviced and treated with Propseal 2023.

Electrical Systems

Voltage Systems:

  • 12vDC/24vDC domestic system with 220V/110AC ring main from generator, solar panels installed 2012 and/or shore power.
  • 1 x Victron Orion 24V to 12V 20A down converter.
  • 1 x 24V to 12V downconverter feeding the AIS and its GPS, the antenna splitter, Radar See Me Box.
  • 1 x 24V to 230V 300 W inverter for the 2 computer screens.

 

Battery Banks:

  • Victron Lithium battery installation (July 2021). Separate 600 Ah house and 200 Ah navigation battery banks integrated with bow thruster battery, solar, wind, shore, and generator power sources. This provides a robust and efficient off grid energy supply with a Victron BMS. Integrated monitoring via Victron screen of battery and charge status together with fuel and water tank levels and various temperature gauges. Status can be viewed remotely when connected to internet.
  • Skylla charger.
  • 3 LiFePo4 25.6V /200 Ah smart batteries for house bank.
  • 1 LiFePo4 25.6V /200 Ah smart battery for navigation.
  • 12V/60 Ah Engine start battery.
  • 12V/60 Ah Generator start battery. Can be switched in parallel to the engine battery.
  • 24V 2 x 12V connected in series for the bow thruster.

 

Battery Chargers:

  • 1 x Victron inverter charger for the service batteries 24V/80 A. Inverter output 2000 W at 230V.
  • 1 x Victron charger for the navigation batteries 24V/50 A.
  • 1 x Charger from the wind generator. 300 W at 25kn windspeed.
  • 1 x Solar charger, 20 A at 24V.

 

Alternators:

  • Engine with a 55amp/h 12V + a 100amp/h 24V to supply the main 24V system.

 

Generator:

  • Onan/Kubota, 11 KW, with its own 60 ah start battery, fully insulated with exhaust fed to an HMI water separator.
  • Additional Separ dual fuel Filters only for generator.
  • Generator hours – 3789 as of July 2024
  • Generator last serviced: Aug 23.

 

Shore Power:

  • 1 x Fully automatic isolation transformer. Input voltage 230 and 110 50 or 60Hz, output 230V to all the 230V appliances.

 

Other Electrical:

  • 4 x Victron Solar panels 7.7m2 300W – 24V mounted on the stern.
  • Superwind 350, wind generator 350 W.

Plumbing Systems

  • Hot and cold freshwater system, with two freshwater pumps, if one fails the second one can be switched on by its own switch.
  • Pressure tank, warm water heater heats with 24V and hot cooling water from the engine.
  • 24V circulating pump from the hot water can be switched on if wanted.
  • This hot water is also connected to the heating racks in the forward and aft heads.
  • Saltwater pump with outlet in the galley, the automatic aft toilet and the anchor washing supply.
  • Fresh water warm and cold in all heads and galley plus on stern at the bathing ladder and cockpit bath.
  • Water heater Isotemp 40 L installed 3/2013.
  • Rainwater catching system removed but potential to reinstate.

 

Watermaker:

  • Seafresh, capacity 90 litre/h.

 

Bilge Pumps:

  • 3 x Automatic (the aft one with 13300 L/h) and 1 manual in cockpit + 2 semi-automatic in transom & midship.

Tankage

  • Maretron tank measuring. Tank gauges for fuel and water measure more accurately what the tanks hold using an ultrasonic system which connects to the NMEA 2000 backbone. Tank capacities and fill volumes are visible via the Victron screen below the computer screens by the chart table. Installed 2023.
  • Ruuvi temperature gauges for monitoring fridge, freezer, and internal ambient temperatures.

 

Fuel:

  • Total capacity of 1,080 litres in 3 x rigid high density polyethylene tanks.

 

Fresh Water:

  • Total capacity of 850 litres in 2 x rigid high density polyethylene tanks.

 

Grey/Blackwater Holding Tanks:

  • 2 x 60 litre blackwater tanks.
  • 1 x 180 litre greywater tank.
  • Grey and black water have overboard and in tank valves.

 

Gas:

  • Safefill gas cylinders (2018). These can be refilled at Morrisons petrol stations etc. and have a capacity of 19.5l each. 2 x tanks can last for 18 months of continuous cruising.

Navigation Equipment

  • Furuno Blackbox system TZT2BB with Furuno Navnet.
  • Furuno chart plotter/multi-function system at internal navigation table and cockpit, these link with Maxsea Timezero software connected to Furuno nav net (2021). Timezero also accesses suite of charts, AIS data, instrument, and radar data with availability for weather download and routing. Routings on the PC can be transferred immediately to Furuno system.
  • Furuno radar DRS 4D 24".
  • Multiple GPS systems.
  • MaxSea time Zero software connected to Furuno Navnet.
  • AIS.
  • B&G/Simrad autopilot instruments installed (2024).

 

In Cockpit:

  • Nav net TZTL15F. 15-inch touch screen chart plotter.
  • B&G Triton 2 multipurpose display and autopilot controller at helm.
  • 2 x B&G Triton 2 displays and autopilot controller above companionway.

 

At Chart Table:

  • 2 x PCs with 2 screens connected to PC or Furuno TZT2BB Blackbox. Controlled by touch screen or using Furuno keypad or pc mouse and keyboard.
  • Electronic nav. charts on Maxsea time Zero + Furuno Blackbox.
  • Autopilot vis Simrad unit.

 

Communications Equipment:

  • VHF Sailor 5022.
  • ICOM M810 SSB unit (2021) supports voice comms as well as enabling email and weather routing comms via SailMail, PredictWind etc.
  • Starlink within T&T dome to give protection and enable permanent mounting (2023).
  • PredictWind data hub (2023).
  • Handheld VHF units.
  • EPIRB - 2 McMurdo G5 auto.
  • S4 rescue SART, McMurdo.

Domestic Equipment

  • Miele WT washer dryer installed in Jan. 2011.

 

Galley:

  • Large fridge 300 L and deep freezer 175 L 24 V Frigomatic.
  • Panasonic inverter combination oven/microwave/grill (2019).
  • Water filter and drinking water tap in galley.
  • Lockable sliding baskets installed in large storage galley cupboard.

 

Heads/Showers:

  • Aft: Tecma electric toilet can use fresh or salt water.
  • Shower: the shower compartment gives access to washing machine and walk in engine room.
  • Forward: Jabsco pump toilet/shower separate.
  • Bathing shower with hot and cold water next to the bathing ladder.

 

Heating & Ventilation:

  • Ebersbächer D9W hot water central heating system with regulators in each cabin.
  • Air-conditioning: 1 aft for master’s cabin, 1 forward, 2 in saloon.
  • Sirocco fans; 2 aft, 1 in galley, 1 forward berth (2021).

 

Entertainment:

  • In the main cabin car FM radio with CD, + MP3, WMA, MPEG1, USB & SD cards.
  • Stereo speaker system (4) in the main cabin + (2) in the cockpit or in each location separate.
  • In master’s cabin car FM radio with CD and 2 stereo speakers in the cabin.
  • The PC screen No. 1 on the nav. table can be turned toward the main seating area of the main cabin to enable watching any DVD you have.
  • Avtex screen in saloon.

 

Lighting:

  • Deck light.
  • Spreader up and down light.
  • Cockpit table light fixed on the boom.
  • Main and master cabin lights replaced with led dimmable lamps (via Bluedim app) (2021).
  • White/red lights above the galley sink and chart table, nav. station for night sailing.
  • Transom light.

Accommodation

Summary of Accommodation:

  • 6 x Berths; master cabin with king size centreline berth with split mattress on special battens with 4 large lockers under the bed and ample stow room under mattresses; pullman guest cabin to port with 2 bunks; lockers under lower bunk and cupboards on both sides; forward main guest cabin with king-size berth with split mattress on battens; with lockers under the berth and on both sides, not to forget ample storage space under the 2 mattress.
  • Throughout the living area there are wooden sole boards and carpets (2022).
  • The joinery is executed in American Cherry.
  • Bevel edged mirrors replaced 2024 in heads and forecabin.
  • The saloon has a raised seating area with upholstery in Seagull Sunbrella with quick dry foam around the saloon table that folds out on each corner.
  • Replacement glass/acrylic inserts on deck hatches and smaller side windows (2017).
  • Replacement saloon windows from Houdini. Single glazed (2021).
  • Head lining replaced (2021).
  • Navigators seat reupholstered (2021).

 

Description of layout from forwards:

  • Anchor locker with 100m chain.
  • Sail locker with bulkhead to the aft.
  • Forward cabin.
  • Pullman cabin to port.
  • Forward heads and shower for the two cabins on starboard.
  • Seating around the table on port with storage below plus chart table with storage on starboard.
  • Under the seating area main batteries, plus access to water diverted taps.
  • Raised navigation table with two PC screens and navigational instruments on starboard.
  • External 2 lockers on port deck for storage, one holds two 19l gas tanks.
  • Gangway in the centre with easy steps with internal storage.
  • Underneath the gangway the generator with soundproofing.
  • Galley on port with the passage to the owners’ cabin perfect to cook in heavy weather conditions.
  • On starboard behind the nav. table and under the seat is the washing machine.
  • Walk in engine room in the center between the galley and the aft shower.
  • Owners cabin with passage to the aft shower and engine room.
  • Lazarette lockers for stowage on port and starboard; port side with the Ebersbächer heater; starboard side hydraulic for the two piston of the autopilot steering; center the steering mechanics of the rudder.
  • Transom lockers for the outboard petrol.

Deck Equipment

Rig:

  • Carbon mast in 34-700 standard modulus carbon fiber with 3 set carbon spreader by Hall Spars NL; 25 m from waterline (higher than original Discovery mast!).
  • 2 x Forestay with Reckmann RS2000/40 furling system for jib and genoa.
  • Rod shrouds on chain plates installed in NZ.
  • In boom furling by furler boom DK with Bamar furling motor.
  • Hydraulic boom vang Sailtec model -40BV with double acting pump model T5-1.
  • Backstay rod and with Holmatro backstay adjuster (serviced 2023). Jib and spinnaker poles stowed on deck.
  • Jockey pole stowed on deck starboard.
  • Mast and rigging checks in 2018 (Halls in Breskens) and 2021 (Allspars).

 

Winches:

  • 2 x Andersen 68 STE, primaries.
  • 1 x Andersen 52 STE, mainsheet.
  • 1 x Andersen 52 STE, reefing lines, main halyard, spinnaker halyard, self-tacking jib sheet, preventer.
  • 2 x Andersen 46 ST, on mast for halyards, topping lift, second spinnaker halyard, storm jib, spinnaker boom lift.
  • Jib and genoa halyards are controlled by a tensioning system on the mast.

 

Sails:

  • Main for furler boom - 75.94 m2 - 817.47 sq. feet made in 2010, only in use since Jan 2023.
  • 140% Genoa Voyager series - 96 m2. Ullman Sails 2019.
  • Jib to furl - 54.24 m2 - 583.89 sq. feet. North sails 2021.
  • Trysail - 16.27 m2 - 175.15 sq. feet.
  • Storm jib - 15.88 m2 - 170.95 sq. feet.
  • G2 gennaker - 202.51 m2 - 2180.01 sq. feet.

  • Easyfurl from North Sails, set up with removable small bow sprit and side deck gear to help manage furling (2022).

 

General:

  • Large varnished mahogany folding cockpit table with integral unit.
  • Stainless steel bathing ladder recessed into transom.
  • Stainless steel steps for side access stored in forward locker.
  • Abundant spares under forward berth.

 

Anchoring & Mooring Equipment:

  • Anchor Capa Ultra 45 kg with swirl.
  • Chain 100m stainless A4 (1.4462, Duplex) 10 x 28mm.
  • Windlass MAXWELL with electronic chain control and counter, can be operated from cockpit and remote.
  • Stern anchor Manson plough 20 kg with a special dropping equipment and line on a spool.

  • Covers for all windows and winches.
