OVERVIEW:
The Cape 31 is an affordable high performance 31 ft race boat, with proven ability under IRC, ORC and of course as a One Design racer.
The boat was masterminded by Lord Irvine Laidlaw, designed by Mark Mills and is built by licensed boat builder Cape Performance Sailing Ltd.
Teams usually sail 7 or 8 up on this latest generation race boat. The class rule prefers owner driver (always amateur) and a mixed crew of amateurs and professionals.
The key to this boat’s success is that it has proven itself as not only a great one design boat, but also as a very competitive boat under multiple handicap systems, including IRC and ORC.
The design has had some impressive results over the last few years in a host of UK and European IRC events, Caribbean CSA events and US ORR/ORC events including becoming 2022 UK IRC National Champion and two times Les Voiles de St Tropez Champion!
Another great feature of the Cape 31 is that she (along with her 2 piece mast) fits into a 40ft container so can be easily shipped around the World.
Handy when you decide you’d like to join in with winter sailing in warmer waters.
