Asia’s first superyacht show opens this weekend
Singapore, 4 April 2011 – A brand new superyacht exhibition opens its doors this Friday, 8 April 2011 at ONE°15 Marina Club in Sentosa Cove. The widely-anticipated first edition of the Singapore Yacht Show will present a first-class line-up of sailing and motor superyachts, as well as displays from some of the leaders of the international yachting industry, despite being launched only four months ago.
This excellent turn-out for a first-time show underlines the appetite of South East Asia’s new super-wealthy to discover the luxury marine lifestyle long-enjoyed by their counterparts in the West, and the enthusiasm of the international builders, brokers and suppliers to support an exciting new market. The Singapore Yacht Show is intended to be a truly regional event, targeted at specially invited business leaders, VIPs, celebrities and yachting enthusiasts from around the whole of South East Asia.
The three-day show welcomed important international industry exhibitors such as San Lorenzo, Palmer Johnson, MTU, Jade Yachts, Mega Marine, ICON Yachts, Azimut, Gulf Craft and Prout International. A home grown success story is embodied in the construction of the Mega 128, the first superyacht to be built in Singapore in close to two decades, by Singapore-owned shipyard Megaway Engineering & Trading. The 12-strong superyacht display features the 187ft Aegean Montigne, 131ft traditionally built Phinisi El Aleph, the 108ft Broward Nymphaea, the 116ft Azimut Hye Seas II and the 100ft schooner Raja Laut, amongst others.
Seasoned boating enthusiasts can expect concept yachts to be unveiled at the show. The 138 ft Prout International trimaran and the Jade 95 Explorer from Jade Yachts are among those anticipated to elicit a strong interest from visitors. Also expected to make a splash is the 141 ft superyacht jointly constructed by Mega Marina and ICON Yachts.
Industry professionals new to the region can look forward in gaining important insights from local experts, as they share knowledge and discuss current issues for the regional superyacht industry at the Asia Superyacht Conference from 7 to 8 April, held in conjunction with the Singapore Yacht Show at the ONE°15 Marina Club. Speakers at this two-day conference will tackle issues including piracy risks, marina developments, service facility upgrading, chartering opportunities and market growth potential in Asia.
“The response to the first edition of the Singapore Yacht Show has been very encouraging,” said Andy Treadwell, Managing Director of Informa Yacht Group, organisers of the Singapore Yacht Show. “We are delighted to extend a very warm welcome to all the exhibitors, sponsors and guests and visitors who are coming to support our newest Yacht Show, and hope that this event will herald the start of a more dynamic and vibrant superyacht industry in Asia. We look forward to an exciting next few years!”
Sponsors are also fervently anticipating the development of the superyacht sector in the region. David Lim, CEO of Julius Baer, a leading Swiss private banking group and one of the show’s major sponsors, believes the Singapore Yacht Show is a good opportunity to reach out to the bank’s many existing clients in the region, and the huge number of potential customers seeking expert wealth management.
“The Singapore Yacht Show presents a unique opportunity to reach the growing pool of high net worth individuals in Asia. This will be a perfect platform for Julius Baer to extend corporate hospitality to our clients, and at the same time allow us valuable networking opportunities and build brand visibility for the exclusive private banking services we offer,” Lim said.
The Singapore Yacht Show is supported by the Singapore Tourism Board, as well as the Superyacht Singapore Association, with ONE°15 Marina Club as the official venue partner. BMW Group Asia is on board as the show’s official car, Rolls-Royce Motor Cars Singapore are sponsors of the gala dinner, and Capella is the Premium Hotel partner.
The Show takes place from 8-10 April 2011 at ONE°15 Marina Club, opening daily from 3.00pm to 8.00pm on Friday 8 April, and 3.00pm to 10.00pm on Saturday and Sunday, 9 and 10 April.
