Construction
The Rustler 36 was designed by Holman and Pye as a seaworthy "go-anywhere" long-distance fast cruiser with a long cutaway fin keel, relatively narrow beam - elegant and graceful. This yacht was built by Orion Marine (Falmouth) Ltd (1984) and completed with the first owner at Maltings Marine (East Anglia) by 1997. Ballast is a lead casting comprising 3.4 tons and fully encapsulated in the keel. White GRP hull with alloy toe rails. White GRP superstructure, long keel with keel hung rudder. Whitlock Cobra rod wheel steering. Aft self-draining cockpit with teak laid decks. Hull moulding under Lloyds Register Certification +100A1. Last survey 08/2024.
Engine
Vetus 4.14 four cylinder 33hp marine diesel engine (1996) with ZF Hurth gearbox. Fresh water cooled via heat exchanger. Shaft drive via Aquadrive coupling to 3 blade fixed right-handed propeller. Twin diesel filters. Maximum speed under power 7 knots; cruise at 6 (range about 350 nm). Bowthruster by Sidepower.

Accommodation
The accommodation comprises 5 berths in three cabins. Fore cabin - V berth with in-fill - storage and anchor locker beneath. Separate heads compartment to starboard with marine toilet, washbasin and shower with pumped floor drain. Hanging locker to port. Saloon - dinette to starboard with single settee berth opposite. Chart table to port with galley opposite. Twin stainless-steel sinks. Hot and cold pressurized freshwater system. Force 10 gimballed two burner gas cooker with grill and oven. Isotherm refrigerator. Aft cabin with ample room for 1 or 2 at a pinch. Mikuni kerosene or diesel fired central heating (also heats the water).
Rig and Sails
Masthead rigged sloop. Anodised aluminium mast (keel stepped) and boom. Stainless steel standing rigging 2014. Hydraulic backstay tensioner. Detachable inner forestay. Terylene and Spectra running rigging. Slab reefing to mainsail. Hood Sea Furl headsail furling system with self-tacking jib. Lines led aft to cockpit. New stack-pack 02/2025. 2 x Lewmar 46 self-tailing primary sheet winches. 2 x Lewmar 30 self-tailing secondary sheet winches. 2 x Lewmar 30 self-tailing control line winches. Lewmar 16 self-tailing halyard winch. Lewmar 7 reefing winch. Adjustable Genoa cars. Spinnaker pole with mast stowage. Currently working with a self-tacking foresail for excellent easy sailing.

Electrical
12v / 240v - batteries and shore power. Alternator charging to 1 x 12 v engine battery, 1 x 12v anchor windlass and bow thruster, 4 x 6v deep cycle configured for 12 volts (brand new), 400 amp hour domestic capacity. Balmar high capacity external alternator regulator. Battery monitor. Airex wind generator. Solar panels. 240 volt shore power system including battery charger. Electric windlass - Lofrans Tigres. Electric bilge pump. Tank tender gauge for fuel and water tanks.
