English

Marketing Description

'Sweet Georgia' is a large comfortable cruiser built by Moody Yachts to an Angus Primrose design in 1981. She was one pf the last Mark 1 models built and has been in her present ownership for the past 35 years. Unfortunately age catches up with us all and the present custodian has decided to make her available to new owners whom he hopes will have as much fun as he has sailing to new destinations and making fresh memories along the way.
The boat has not done much these past 10 years and some of the onboard systems will need upgrading or recommissioned. Below decks is clean and comfortable and her machinery will still offer many years of service. The genoa is unused, her sprayhood new and there is an as yet unused cockpit canopy. Navigation aids include a Raymarine C80 colour chartplotter, Raymarine autopilot and a recent ICOM DSC VHF. Cabin Heating.

Mechanical

The vessel is powered by a 4-cylinder, 38hp Thorneycroft inboard diesel engine. Although original, the engine offers reliability and will provide many years of service in the future. Most recent service was in 2024. Engine is housed beneath the cockpit and is easily accessed from the starboard side. This gives access to the engine, gearbox and battery installation. Engine start panel in cockpit with key start and visual gauges providing revs, temperature, oil pressure and charging. Reduction gearbox driving a stainless steel shaft and 2-bladed fixed propeller. Prop[eller shaft supported by a P-bracket with cutlass bearing.

Electrical

Bank of 3X12V batteries providing engine start, domestic and bow thruster power. These are re-charged via the engine alternator. There are portable battery chargers which can be used when attached to shore power. There are plentiful 3-pin sockets in all cabins, saloon and galley. Rotary style battery selector switch and fused 12V switch panel at chart table.

Rigging

Bermudan sloop rigged vessel with deck stepped aluminium spars by Selden. Rigid kicker supporting the boom with mainsheet track mounted aft of helm. Main halyard and reefing line winches at mast. Granny bars on port side for safety. Roller furling headsail system with Lewmar 42, 2-speed genoa sheet winches mounted within easy reach of helm. Spinnaker halyard winch mounted on aft cockpit coaming.
Boom mounted mainsail in lazy jack bag. Sail bag will require replacement soon. Mainsail of unknown age with Rutgerson cars for easy deployment. Furling genoa with UV strip by Kemp. This sail is brand new and only used once which was during her recent trip up North. There is a spinnaker on board.

Accommodation

The Moody 36 was built with the primary purpose of offering the discerning yachtsman the capability of spending extended periods aflot whether alone or with family and friends.
The sheer volume inside the vessel was unusual for boats of this era and to have one with such a large en-suite aft cabin was quite unique.
Below decks has clearly defined areas. The full width saloon with its settees port and starboard of a drop leaved table, L-shaped galley and two seperate sleeping cabins makes this feel like a much larger vessel.
The interior is accessed via a two piece washboard system from the cockpit. The companionway entrance is slightly offset to starboard and a quite steep ladder gives access to the saloon. The first thing that impresses is the amount of teak veneer and solid wood cabinet work. The upholstery is original but in excellent condition.
The port and starboard settees provide two good single berths and are fitted with lee cloths. The starboard settee is slightly larger, is L-shaped providing an extra seat at the table. Above the seating is deep hull mounted cupboards which can be used for provisions, equipment or as a dedicated drinks cabinet.
facing aft is the galley with hull counted storage for crockery, L-shaped worktops with stainless steel sink, top loading larder, front opening fridge and a Flavel Vanessa, gas fuelled oven with 2-burner hob and grill. The oven is elderly and may need replacing.
Between the saloon and the forward cabin is the heads compartment. To port is a sink unit with mirrored vanity units above and to starboard is the jabsco marine toilet. There is a hanging/wet locker behind the toilet with a zipped enclosure.
In the bow is the aforementioned fore cabin. This has a V-berth with an infill. There is a large opening deck hatch for light and ventilation, 12V reading lights and plentiful storage below and above the berth.
Returning to the saloon and heading aft is a corridor leading to the aft cabin. There is a forward facing chart table with 12V panel and navigation aids. The chart seat is the forward end of the quarter/pilot berth.
Moving aft to the 'Owners' cabin with full width double berth, dressing area and ensuite heads with sink. This is a lovely cabin and has plentiful storage. 12V lighting and an opening deck hatch for additional natural light and ventilation.

  • Berths for 7 persons
  • 2- Double cabins
  • 2 - Heads compartments
  • Cabin Heating
