English

When South African yacht designer, Angelo Lavranos, designed the Crossbow 40 he designed a yacht that could take whatever the sea blew up around South Africa's notorious coastline. So he designed a fast but solid blue water cruiser that could handle what the oceans had to offer. Angelo worked for Sparkman and Stevens and also Bruce Farr and built by Ocean Bound Yachts in Capetown, South Africa. His objective was to create a safe and sturdy family boat for prolonged liveaboard cruising. He describes the design as high volume, medium displacement to ensure maximum safety, comfort and sea kindliness. Just 23 hulls were built of this exclusive model, each with unique fit-outs, none which maximise the internal space as efficiently as "Adamastor", which was hull number 16. She was designed and built to withstand the southern seas and is very strong, combining a unique blend of aesthetic design, engineering, and bluewater experience.

The Angelo Lavranos Crossbow is a lesser-known design but a modern classic, comparable to a Moody, Bowman or Tayana. Built in 1990 in South Africa, "Adamastor" is a sturdy centre-cockpit yacht with a Bermudan sloop rig and graceful lines. This well proven and much-loved boat has been maintained and sailed extensively, crossed several oceans and served as a family home for the previous owners who sailed her 30,000 miles from the UK. She features a surprisingly spacious layout for a yacht this size which is both practical and well designed for comfort.

This Crossbow 40 has been improved over the years and is well set up as a liveaboard or long-distance cruiser. She handles easily, taking on all weathers; she sails efficiently and balances well, something that makes her Hydrovane self-steering system even more effective. The previous owners cruised on her extensively and she comes with a well equipped and comprehensive inventory.

The engine is a Yanmar, known for their reliability and solid, workhorse performance. The boat has undergone three periods of major works during the previous ownership (in 2023,2016 and 2011) and as she has been a full time live aboard, family owned boat, she has been consistently upgraded and maintained as needed.

Adamaster has plenty of head room throughout, there is a linear galley port side, leading through to the spacious aft double en-suited cabin. Forward is another head, along with a V berth that can be used as 3 single bunks, or filled in with the cushions to make a large double berth. The previous owners had 3 young children onboard, and converted the starboard work room onto a single bunk cabin.

The current owner has sadly realised that owning a boat in Malaysia at this stage of his life, and setting sail into the wide blue yonder is not currently possible for him, and he wants to see the boat loved and used, and has placed Adamaster on the market with us here at Seaspray.
