Helmsman Yachts AB was founded in 1973 by Arne Linde, yacht designer Hakan Södergrön and Captain Lothar Köhler and was located in Vaxholm near Stockholm, Sweden. The yard has long been known for building solid, well-built and seaworthy boats, and the Helmsman 49 DS is no exception. Known for its spacious and comfortable deck saloon and stylish aft cabin with private toilet, this model is designed to be both stable and comfortable on long trips.

Interior design
The interior is spacious and comfortable with a deck saloon that provides good visibility and light. Everything is equipped for long stays on board with gas stove, cool box with compressor, pressurized hot/cold water, battery charger, shore power and inverter. Heating is installed (Eberspächer 4 kW) and both electric and manual toilet with holding tank. All cushions are in navy blue Alcantara (2014).
Safety and extras
The boat comes with a life raft (serviced in 2024), several life jackets (from 2019), a MOB buoy, fire extinguishers (2024), a lifebuoy and various ropes and mooring gear. Also included is a fiberglass-bottomed rib (2012) and a Mariner 4 hp outboard motor.
