Overview
Launched in 1990, the Hallberg-Rassy 34 marked a significant evolution in the design style and configuration of the renowned centre cockpit Hallberg-Rassy models. This design remained in production until 2005, with continuous improvements made to enhance accommodation layout, including adjustments to bulkhead locations, head configuration, and portlight placements. Over 450 units of the Hallberg-Rassy 34 were produced before the introduction of the Hallberg-Rassy 342.
A late model of the Hallberg-Rassy 34, MAID OF STRUAN is hull number 472. She has had only her 2nd owner and has been based in Scotland since 2018. Now reluctantly offered for sale, her inventory includes:

Accommodation
Accommodation: Ideal cruising yacht for two or four, and even with six on board, she offers a level of comfort typically found on much larger boats.
The forward cabin features a bunk 2m long and 2m (max) wide, along with a hanging locker and ample cupboards, plus storage space underneath. The aft cabin includes a double berth, 2.13m long and 2m wide (max), a hanging locker, and cupboards.
The saloon is well lit and ventilated. It has two sofas (convertible into two additional full-length bunks) and a drop-leaf table, comfortably seating 6 people. There are bookcases and cupboards on both sides, along with a Pioneer stereo/CD player, clock, barometer, and further storage under the sofas. The Webasto heater has outlets serving all cabins and heads.
Chart Table includes chart storage, instrument rack, and shelf. The electric switch panel features fuel, water, and engine hour gauges, as well as the Mastervolt battery monitor. Above the chart table, there is a Raymarine ST60 Multi Depth/Speed/Wind instrument, an ICS Navtex 6, and provision for mounting the chart plotter. The Raymarine DSC VHF radio has an additional speaker in the cockpit. The navigator’s seat offers good storage below.
Galley: Equipped with a 2-ring ENO cooker and oven, powered by two 2.75kg Camping Gaz bottles stored in a dedicated cockpit locker. Features a fridge, one deep sink with a half-size sink alongside, mixer tap, water filter, and waste bin below. Manual fresh water foot pump. Ample storage in the galley includes four drawers, a chopping board, and a small drop-leaf table. An opening window is located above the galley.
Heads: Sea toilet with manual pump and holding tank. Wash basin with mixer tap, storage below, and shower with teak grating. Insulated water heater and shower waste pump.
Mechanical Systems
Engine: VOLVO PENTA MD2030 3-Cylinder marine diesel engine with sail drive and a two-bladed folding bronze propeller.

The engine is mounted in a sound-insulated area with access from the front and back. It is fresh water cooled. Diesel tank capacity is 155 litres. Fresh water tank capacity is 255 litres. The system includes a pressurized fresh water system and a manual bilge pump.
Electrics: Full 230v shore power system with ring main, immersion heater, and Eleab battery charger 230/12V/20Amp. Engine Battery – 1x 12VDC, 85Ah, lead acid battery (2021). Domestic Battery – 2x 12VDC, 85Ah, lead acid batteries (2021). Charging of batteries is managed by a 60A alternator. The electric switch panel includes fuel and water gauges and a voltmeter. The Mastervolt BTM-1 battery monitor display is included. There are 12v sockets in the forward cabin, aft cabin, and at the chart table. International navigation lights feature a combined tricolour/anchor light at the masthead. An electric emergency bilge pump is switched in the cockpit.
Heating: WEBASTO Air Top 3500 diesel-fired warm air heater with outlets in the front cabin, saloon, aft cabin, and heads. Thermostatic control is located at the chart table.
Spars And Sails
Fractional rig by Selden with a strong backstay tensioner for trimming the mast. Backstay insulated. Headsail furling and reefing system Selden Furlex 200S, with a jammer for the Furlex line. Spinnaker halyard. Double spreaders. Forward and aft lower shrouds. Halyards/lines lead through 8 jammers to 2 Lewmar 16ST 2-speed winches under the sprayhood. Rigging bottle screws are protected by aluminum boot covers. Spinnaker pole with track and traveller for stowing pole on the mast. Navigational lights include mast-head tricolour and LED anchor light. Rodkicker with gas spring.
- Fully battened Mainsail (Sanders Sails 2016) with 3 reefs led to the cockpit.
- Zip-pack and lazy jacks for the main with boot cover (Owen Sails 2022).
- Genoa (130 percent) by Sanders Sails (2006). New UV Strip 2022.
- Working jib (26sq.m) with UV protection, by Elvstrom.
Deck Equipment
Double bow roller with stainless stemhead fitting. Electric windlass by Lewmar, control switches on deck. CQR anchor 20.5kg with 40m/8mm chain and 60m rope attached with stainless steel swivel connector. Bruce stern anchor.
Aluminium framed glass windscreen (the central section of the windscreen does not open due to corrosion). Folding sprayhood (new cover 2016) over the cockpit. High gloss washboards.
The cockpit features the preferred tiller version, providing good shelter in rough seas and ample room in the harbor, with a stowable cockpit table and an all-encompassing tent extension. Sprayhood. Canvas bimini on stainless steel frame, Owen Sails 2022. Teak outboard bracket on pushpit. Windex. 2 x 44 ST primary winches and 2 x 16 ST halyard winches by Lewmar in chrome. Deck, toe-rail, handrails, cockpit seats, integrated bathing platform with ladder, cockpit floor, and side trims are all in teak.
Navigation Equipment
Raymarine ST60 Depth, Speed, Wind, and Compass stationed above the hatch. Raymarine C60 Classic Chart Plotter/Radar Display mounted in the cockpit or at the chart table. Raymarine ST6001 Autopilot with type 1 linear drive mounted directly to the rudder stock. Raymarine 2KW radar scanner. Raymarine RAY5E DSC VHF with masthead antenna.
