Raised deck saloon German Frers designed fast cruising Swan from 1991 with Andrew Winch interiors and extensive refit/updates in recent seasons.
FURTHER BROKER’S COMMENTS:
From the board of German Frers and with interiors with Winch Design, and a development of the Swan 86, SPIRIT (ex ‘FLAWLESS’, ex ‘DIE SWAENE’) is configured for effortless long-distance liveaboard cruising combined with trademark Nautor Swan sparkling sailing performance and unmatched build quality.
A substantial refit in 2014 at renowned Yachting Developments Ltd in New Zealand aimed to modernize the yacht while preserving her classic elegance. Key modifications included:-
• Removal of the original aft deck and cockpit, replaced with a new seating arrangement under a semi-fixed Bimini.
• Addition of twin wheels in place of the single original wheel.
• Expansion of the owner’s cabin and the incorporation of an additional guest cabin in the forward sail stow area, increasing accommodation capacity.
• A refreshed interior with a lighter palette and contemporary furnishings.
• A five-tonne weight reduction through the strategic use of composite materials, enhancing speed and manoeuvrability.
• Additional Port Lights were added in the Master cabin and saloon with emergency storm blanks.
Following this Euro 2,500,000+ refit, SPIRIT was purchased by her current owners in Singapore and has carried her owners in private cruising comfort in various parts of the world, including to her current cruising grounds in the Western Mediterranean after she was delivered back by cargo ship in 2021. She has since sailed twice to the Canary Islands, as well as to Sardinia, Malta, and southern Spain with her current owner who has continued the program of refit and upgrade, investing a further Euro 500,000+ in recent seasons.

OWNER’S COMMENTS:
We acquired SPIRIT in 2017, and since then, she has been used privately by two families, never chartered. Each family had distinct interests, resulting in a highly varied use of the yacht. We have always maintained a minimum full-time crew of two, and for the past six years, SPIRIT has been under the care of a highly experienced captain from New Zealand, who brings not only years of sailing expertise but also a deep knowledge of boat maintenance, as he owns a boat management company. Together, we have worked= continuously to enhance our Swan 90 both technically and operationally.
The first family was passionate about leisure, motor cruising, and scuba diving, both recreational and deepsea. Their most remarkable achievement was the discovery of a sunken submarine in the Adamant Sea. This involved a three-week sonar survey before members of the family conducted a 100-meter dive. SPIRIT proved to be an excellent platform for deep-sea exploration, as well as for standard scuba diving and other family activities in shallower waters.
The second family focused more on sailing, utilizing SPIRIT for both racing and cruising. She twice participated in the King’s Cup in Phuket, sailing with a full crew and using all sails, including the magnificent, oversized gennaker. After relocating to Europe, she sailed to the Canary Islands, where she encountered 40-knot winds at a 170-degree true wind angle off Gran Canaria. With three reefs in the main, she performed impeccably, maintaining speeds of 13-14 knots. Further demonstrating her seaworthiness, she crossed the Strait of Gibraltar in 34-knot winds, achieving her top recorded speed of 15.6 knots. She also navigated the strait between Corsica and Sicily on a particularly windy day, handling effortlessly with a balanced helm and tracking as if on rails.
Among the improvements we have made to SPIRIT, we introduced new battery systems, integrated load management software, and backup hydraulic solutions for essential systems, ensuring she is always ready for the most demanding conditions. The mainsails were replaced with high-performance, durable North 3Di fabric, and we completely dismantled and rejuvenated the engine. Across all systems, we have upgraded and enhanced SPIRIT, adding redundancy wherever possible to make her even more resilient. With these improvements, she has become truly ocean-ready. Under the vigilant care of our captain and his skilled team, she has never encountered a significant technical issue, despite sailing approximately 100 days per year.
Through all our endeavours, our goal has always been to ensure that every system aboard SPIRIT is in top condition, allowing her to perform at her best, no matter the challenge. Under previous ownership, SPIRIT sailed worldwide, making appearances in Los Angeles, Tahiti, New Zealand, and throughout Europe. She has consistently proven to be a highly manoeuvrable and safe vessel, even in challenging wind conditions. We have loved SPIRIT and hope that the attention to detail and care invested, along with the work of our captain, will allow her to be cherished by her future custodian as much as she has been by us.
