On A Whim is a 1983 Lancer Yachts PowerSailor 27’sailboat is in good condition and is turnkey!
On A Whim has two aluminum 20-gallon fuel tanks. Nothing on her leaks and I have replaced most of the fuel fittings. The tanks are clean inside, no debris and there is a water/debris filter/separator mounted on the inside of the aft hull and it is replaced every 6 months. I have plenty of spares. She came with an aftermarket in-mast furling system that just did not work and was very difficult to furl and un-furl so I had it removed and replaced with the original furling system.
The Motor is a 2000 Evinrude FICHT 115HP with 460 hours on her. Two years ago, I had her tuned up by a Certified Evinrude mechanic and he replaced the impeller and the prop with a used one. I have done all the maintenance since then (DeCarbon, spark plug gapping and replacement, etc.) and I have the diagnostic software on a laptop (included with the boat) and maintenance manual. At the time, this was a very advanced engine because Evinrude contracted with German Company FICHT to design a low-pressure fuel injection system.
They came up with an Engine Management Module (computer) and on-cylinder fuel pressurizers/injectors that are mapped to the computer. They can be very finicky engines but this one has been well cared for and she always starts up and runs very smooth up to about 4,200 RPMs. I just replaced the hydraulic tilt/trim unit with a new old-stock re-built unit. The hull is bulletproof and in very good condition. The port side has gelcoat scars from my slip’s metal cleat that gave way during the hurricane last year in Tampa, but I have lightly sanded them away.
Bottom paint has just been professionally applied. Lancer built an excellent boat and the Powersailer can support up to a 200HP motor. Because of that, the hull is a compromise in both the sailing and motoring department. She is not a speed demon either under sail or motoring, but she is fun whether you are cruising the ICW or out sailing along the coast and she is stable in rough seas. For a 28-year-old boat, she is in very good shape! She comes with all required Coast Guard safety equipment, small window air conditioner, various tools, drill, microfiber towels, rechargeable handheld vacuum cleaner, VHF radio and a healthy parts supply for any repairs. This is a great first-time sailboat or a good boat to teach your son or daughter how to sail. Clean Florida Title and current registration.
