The YYachts Y7, on sale in Germany, is a 21.68-metre sailing yacht designed by Michael Schmidt Yachtbau with a beam of 5.75 metres, set for manufacturing in 2025. Known for its philosophy of being fast, light, and easy to sail, the Y7 features design innovations by Bill Tripp. Notably, it has a sophisticated furling system and elegantly integrated anchor and wheel pedestals, ensuring a clean deck design. Twin engines, a bow thruster, and the ability for single-handed sailing make it highly manoeuvrable, even in tight marinas. The yacht includes a tender garage for dinghies up to 3.50 metres, housed within a carbon boom and accessible from the deck. YYachts utilises eco-friendly synthetic teak and a square-headed mainsail, eliminating the need for a backstay, enhancing performance.
The origin of YYachts by Michael Schmidt Yachtbau is one of many success stories of its founder Michael Schmidt. Himself a pass- ionate regatta sailor and boat builder, from the outset he was steadfast in his belief that a yacht must be fast, light and easy to sail. The Y7 is the realisation of this philosophy and features numerous innovations on board that express it.

The furling system, anchor and wheel pede- stals are elegantly integrated into the exterior look created by Bill Tripp. Twin engines and a bow thruster allow easy manoeuvring, even in tight marinas, making the Y7 surprisingly easy to handle.
Your dinghy of up to 3.50 metres in length disappears in a tender garage and is moved with a lifting system integrated into the car- bon boom. Containing all equipment
and “water toys”, the dinghy garage is dry and easily accessed from the deck. On deck, YYachts uses synthetic teak which is long lasting, light and eco-friendly.
All halyards and sheets on the Y7 run aft and hidden to the wheel pedestals. This way the helmsman or helms woman can sail the Y7 singlehandedly – probably the only 70-footer on the market that allows this.
As there is no backstay, the square- headed mainsail boasts more sail area and a profile better suited for performance. The cockpit has a high variety of uses. On the portside there is a full-size companionway leading to the crew quarters and invisibly integrated in the aft cockpit settees.
