We are inviting sealed bids above the indicated price to Clarke & Carter by mid day on November 6th 2024. The sale is strictly as is where is without any warranty on condition or description.

We do not know the exact build date but the C38 was build between 1983 & 1990. Smaug is regarded as a COMPLETE REBUILD PROJECT having been ashore and untouched for some 15 years. The list of works to bring her back to her former glory is considerable and extensive. Major items needing attention (not exhaustive) are: remove teak deck, re-engine, new standing and running rigging plus sails, re-wire and re-plumb, re-upholster and head linings, replace all skin fittings and seacocks, refurbish the varnish work and replace cabin soles, etc.

Mechanical & Electrical Systems

Fitted with a series 3000, Volvo Penta marine diesel engine with sail drive. The engine will more than likely need replacement.

Electrical systems - 12v & 240v systems will need either replacement or refurbishment.

Equipment:

MAST & RIGGING: Masthead Bermudan sloop rig. Double spreader, keel stepped mast by Selden. Stainless steel standing rigging and terylene running rigging, both will need replacement. Rod kicker. Hydraulic backstay tensioner. Harken headsail furling system. Lewmar 40, 44, 48 and 30 winches - most self tailing. Spinnaker pole. Jockey pole. Removable cutter stay with running backstays.

SAILS: There is a wardrobe of sails that are in the region of 20 years old (not used for 15) that may be useable.

NAVIGATION EQUIPMENT: B&G system with depth, close hauled, wind, speed and log. Binnacle mounted compass. Raymarine autopilot. VHF radio. All untested recently.

DECK EQUIPMENT: CQR anchor with galvanised chain. Kedge anchor. Lofrans 1000w electric anchor windlass. Various warps and fenders.

Construction:

Built by Sewden Yachts between 1983 & 1990, actual age unknown. White grp hull with style stripes and alloy toe rails. White grp coachroof with teak decks (teak lifting). LEAD fin keel. Wheel steering to spade rudder. Self draining cockpit and anchor well.
