History of Sunbeam

Sunbeam Yachts, initially known as Schöchl Yachtbau, was founded in 1951 by Josef Schöchl in Mattsee, Austria. The company began as a small boat-building workshop but quickly gained a reputation for quality craftsmanship and innovative designs. Over the decades, the brand evolved significantly, focusing initially on wooden boats before transitioning to fibreglass construction in the 1970s. This transition allowed them to produce more durable and efficient vessels, leading to wider recognition in the European sailing community.Throughout the 1980s and 1990s, Sunbeam Yachts continued to innovate, incorporating advanced technologies and materials into their boat designs. They placed strong emphasis on combining traditional craftsmanship with modern engineering to produce high-performance, comfortable, and safe sailing yachts. The range of Sunbeam models expanded, catering to various sailing needs from leisurely coastal cruising to more demanding offshore voyages. Their exceptional build quality and attention to detail earned them numerous awards and a loyal customer base.Today, Sunbeam Yachts operates out of their headquarters in Mattsee, Austria, where they maintain their legacy of premium yacht manufacturing. The company remains family-owned, with the third generation of the Schöchl family actively involved in the management and design processes. Sunbeam’s current portfolio features a range of yachts designed to meet contemporary sailing requirements, ensuring they remain at the forefront of the yachting industry.
