DESIGN OVERVIEW

The Sabre 426 embraces the standards which have put Sabre's name atop the quality spectrum of boatbuilding for the last 30 years. Current Sabre owners and those who have followed the brand over time, will see details here which make it feel familiar. Details which make sense, which add to comfort, security and well being. Logical details that, above all, make each Sabre design a great safe and beautiful sailboat. But details from the past are just part of the story. Keeping up with technology has to go hand in hand with our desire to build the finest possible sailing yachts for our clients. The Sabre 426 hull and deck are built using vacuum bagged, closed cell, cross linked PVC foam and structural E Glass, which gives her one of the strongest, lightest, most durable structures available today. Hull lines, underwater appendages and rigs were drawn by Jim Taylor Yacht Design. The deck, deck styling and interior were accomplished by the Sabre Design Team. The result is a yacht which will, like her siblings, establish a benchmark in sailing that will endure for many years to come.

HULL & DECK

Vacuum-bagged hull laminated with structural E-glass, cored with Airex closed cell foam. Outer layers use vinylester resins for waterproofness. Sleek inward turning hull to deck joint with integral 2 1/4" high teak toe rail, secured with 3M 5200 sealant and stainless steel through bolts. Bulkheads, berth faces, shelves, and floor stringers are all bonded to the hull and each other to provide additional structural reinforcement and the super solid feel SABRE is renowned for.

Deck is single unit, resin infused fiberglass with Airex core for stiffness with high density PVC core in high stress areas.

Inboard and outboard genoa tracks; HARKEN cockpit adjustable inboard tracks are recessed into the deck tooling. Custom integrated stainless steel deck hardware includes mast collar, bow roller, chocks (bow, stern, and mid-ships), opening ports, and companionway handrail.

- Molded in winch handle pockets; coamings angled for
comfort.
- Solid teak cup holder on pedestal.
- Two cockpit scuppers to Marelon sea valves.
- Stove fuel storage locker in aft lazarette.

ACCOMMODATIONS

The interior of the SABRE 426 is hand crafted of the finest American cherry with a teak and holly sole. Satin varnish gives the wood a delicate sheen, which accents the highly detailed joinery work featuring SABRE's signature cold-molded curved laminated trim not found in other yachts. The generous headroom measures 6'6" in the main salon and aft areas, and 6'4" in the forward cabin. Drawers are maple dove-tailed construction with smooth sliding roller guides. Locker doors have fully louvered fronts, recessed self-closing hinges, and positive sealing push button latches. The elegant and extensive lighting is by Cantalupi.

Nowhere is the study of old and new elements more evident than in the main salon of the SABRE 426. The bulkhead-mounted table, a long time SABRE owners' favorite, allows for an exceptionally open and airy salon. For entertaining, or for simply relaxing at the end of an exhilarating day on the water, the two L-shaped settees offer comfortable seating spaces for all of your family and friends. The portside settee converts to a double berth.

Storage is plentiful both above and outboard of the settees. SABRE woodworking details, including shoji style cabinet doors found aboard the 426 are sure to please the most discriminating buyer. An optional liquor storage insert has been added to the starboard center locker.

The U-shaped galley is both functional and conveniently located at the base of the companionway, within easy reach of the cockpit. HELIX features a VITRIFRIGO drawer-style refrigeration system in addition to a top-loading unit. An AC powered microwave oven provides extra convenience.

Stainless steel sinks are situated on the forward arm of the galley, as close as possible to the yacht's centerline. A convenient in-counter dish drainer/locker is located outboard and three large lockers are provided for dry goods. Many drawers are available for utensils and cookware.

The owners' cabin aboard the SABRE 426 is forward, where ventilation, light, and sleeping comfort are optimized. This queen size berth is surrounded by many drawers and lockers for storage of personal gear. The hanging locker is cedar lined. Seat is upholstered with ULTRASUEDE.

Her head compartment, with ceramic tiled floor and spacious separate shower stall is well equipped, functional, and easy to clean. Hose runs from the WC to the holding tank are as short as possible so as to minimize head odors. The Jabsco Quiet Flush fresh water head, and Tank Watch 4 holding tank level monitor further enhance this approach.

The aft cabin is roomy and airy. A clever overhead hatch (concealed under and protected by the cockpit locker lid) offers excellent ventilation as well as connecting the cockpit crew to those below. Many drawers and lockers, including cedar lined hanging locker are provided for stowage of personal effects. The standard vanity and sink allow the occupants of this cabin to wash up in privacy. Seat is upholstered with ULTRASUEDE.

The increasing use of personal computers for navigation led SABRE to supply a specific space on the chart table-top for that purpose. The inboard end of the chart table hinges open for chart and accessory storage, and a large panel for flush-mounting of additional electronics is provided in clear view of the navigator.  The fully equipped custom SABRE tool drawer highlights the storage in this area.
