Founded in 1965, Morgan Yacht Corporation is one of the great pioneers in the boat manufacturing industry. Morgan was established by Charley Morgan in St. Petersburg, Florida, where he began by building a variety of vessels. Morgan's first designed boat, Paper Tiger, won numerous races, immediately establishing the brand's reputation for high-performance vessels. Over the years, Morgan Yachts has experienced several ownership changes, including being part of the Beatrice Foods conglomerate in the 1970s and later being purchased by Catalina Yachts.Catalina Yachts, under the leadership of Frank Butler, continued the production of some of the classic Morgan models and even fused the Morgan designs into new Catalina models. This is particularly evident in the Catalina-Morgan 440, a deck saloon cruiser that inherited Morgan's construction standard and Catalina's interior design. During this time, Charley Morgan, founder of Morgan Yachts, moved away from the business and delved into other ventures.Today, Morgan Yachts is no longer in operation. However, the brand’s legacy is evident in various marinas where the older models like Out Islander or Morgan 41 are still considered reliable cruising boats. The designs and the reputation for performance and quality continue to live on through Catalina Yachts, which has its base in Largo, Florida. The fusion of Morgan's principles with Catalina's strengths ensured that the spirit of Morgan Yachts would continue to sail the seas even though the nameplate is no longer in production.
