About this J Boats 42

English

New price!  Save $20,000. Finezza Veloce is hull number 20 out of a production fun of 77 vessels, designed by legendary yacht designer Rod Johnstone and constructed by Tillotson-Pearson Composites in Warren RI, USA, to ABS standards. From 1997 through 2020 this boat was stored indoors at the renowned Lyman and Morse yacht yard in Camden, Maine.  She was pampered by her original owner and his family for those 23 years by L&M, often considered to be one of the best yards in the US.  In a recent inspection FV was found to have virtually NO crazing in the deck gelcoat, very rare, as a direct result of that indoor storage for all those years.

The widely acclaimed J/42 is a limited production (77 boats in total) blue water cruising boat built to ABS standards, examples of which have been sailed all over the world.  Windcheck Magazine wrote, "The J/42 has become legendary for ease of operation and impressive stability."  They've won numerous "Boat of the Year" awards across the globe.  This particular boat has a full set of port-light screens and plywood covers in the unlikely event of a failure in a storm.  Every detail in the boat has been designed and tested by the seasoned veterans in the Johnstone family.  Every component of sail handling, every winch placement, every turning block tweaked and positioned for maximum efficiency.  All of the hardware, especially the winches, are over-sized and robust.  All of the essential controls are led back to the cockpit, including reefing.  The hull form stability of the vessel is that of a much larger, heavier boat, able to sail comfortably in 25 knots of breeze with just a 100% jib and a full main.  The galley is an offshore sailors dream, a proper U-shaped wrap around with refrigeration.  There are proper anchors for the safety strap for the cook, as well as a dual purpose cutting board that doubles as a very secure seat in the galley for robust conditions.  But best of all, this boat has the highly desirable "off-shore" option.  As anyone who's been in a sustained, robust sea state can confirm, sleeping in forward or aft staterooms can be wonderful at anchor or in a marina, but quite uncomfortable offshore.  Veterans of true blue water sailing will agree that using berths amidship is far more comfortable, and if equipped with lee-boards, far safer.  The only problem with that is that most ordinary boats this size have only two berths amidship.  The off-shore option adds two more berths that can be deployed as needed in seconds dead amidship, then removed and easily stored.  This allows up to four members of the crew to sleep safely and comfortably at the same time.  The J/42 also has true blue water extended cruising-level storage, far more than most vessels her size typically offer.  And, like many J/Boats, J/42s have a large mainsail and small foretriangle.  As such they can be sailed with just the main with ease and without the need to tack a headsail, or, can be sailed with a 100% jib, drastically reducing the exercions needed to crank in a large overlapping genoa.  You're literally pulling in 5-6 feet of jib sheet vs. 20-30 feet of genoa sheet, not to mention the dramatically better visibility this sail selection affords the owner.  Finally, the J/42 is lavishly equipped with sail controls not found on ordinary production boats.  For example, a hydraulic back stay adjuster and Harken ball bearing dynamically adjustable headsail leads.  These fingertip controls lead to the cockpit make a profound difference in sail shape, allowing the rig to be de-powered significantly without the need to reef nearly as much.  The carbon fibre mast is yet another masterpiece by Hall Spars, one of their most impressive yet.  It cuts weight aloft by nearly 50% which greatly reduces both healing and pitching, adding another layer of stiffness and control.  J/42s have legendary stiffness and ability to handle heavy conditions with ease.  It's no coincidence that in this year's Newport to Bermuda Race (2024), a particularly rough event where several boats sank or were dismasted, a J/42 finished 2nd in their class, hardly breaking a sweat.   All of these features and attention to details, combined, make the J/42 one of the most impressive boats on the water, from here to New Zealand, to the UK, to South Africa.  Where would you like to take YOUR J/42?
