About this Bluewater 60

English

The Bluewater 60 hull was designed to be a true comfortable offshore design. Keeping away from a plumb bow, which slices the water too sharply and does not allow any hull flare to push seas away. A slight overhand allows for flare and more comfort in larger seas. The hull has a deep bilge, which allows for both increased interior volume, as well as avoiding the pounding that many newer designs suffer from with the flatter bottom. The current hull designs we are seeing are slightly faster off the wind but not nearly as comfortable upwind and larger seas.

There is a choice of a standard lead fixed keel or centreboard arrangement. The lifting keel is via a hydraulic ram, and dyneema lines. It is a sleek design and maintenance is straight forward. The centerboard design and fixed keel design have nominal righting moment difference. Much of that has to do with the additional weight in the hull and with the centerboard itself offering lateral resistance and pointing capability. The centerboard design has many advantages and few disadvantages. In many conditions the centerboard can actually point higher with more draft and of course limit drag with the board reduced or up in off the wind conditions.
