About this Traditional Irish Wooden Curragh

English

A unique and rare boat which are difficult to come by these days with her timeless and elegant sheer lines. Believed to have been built by the renowned Casey brothers of Mweenish, Island, Carna in 1900s.

Known as an Irish traditional wooden curragh (currach adhmaid), she was a working vessel in days gone by, used for fishing and harvesting seaweed from the coastal waters of the Connemara region. For a small boat she has a generous beam, freeboard and a flare to the bow, all signs she was built for open water work and make her a capable and safe family boat. Ideal for inshore coastal exploring.

A lovely looking boat with nice paint scheme, green antifouling paint, light grey topsides, a white bend with oiled and varnished interior to a high-quality finish.

The boat has been rebuilt fully in late 2023 by Cian Mac Donnacha. She has new oak ribs fitted throughout, and larch carvel planking fastened with galvanised boat nails. She has mahogany transom knees and teak thwarts, which are all oiled and varnished to a high quality. She comes with a set or oars and a new set of fenders. The engine and trailer as seen in photos are not included. She motors nicely under an 8hp to 15hp engine.

She is currently in dry storage and is ready for use next summer.
