DESCRIZIONE

DESCRIPTION

Freeward is a solid, seaworthy vessel of noble origins. Her lines are descended from those of traditional Scottish fishing boats, revisited by the designers of the prestigious G.L. Watson & Co studio to make her suitable for cruising in the Mediterranean, according to the original amateur demand. The sail rig is well suited to sailing in the lightest of winds, and this feature, harmonised with her hull, is highlighted by the two tangons for twin foresails ready and hinged on the mast.

The construction is in larch on solid oak frames. The boat has a number of features that make it unique and of great interest: a huge engine room in the centre stern area with two magnificent Gardners still original, fuel tanks with a capacity of 4000 litres.

She was built in 1962 on a commission from Sir M. Hamill by Jones' Buckie Ship and Shipyard near Glasgow to designs by G.L. Watson & C., classed with the Maltese Cross 100 to 1 in Lloyd's Register of Shipping, she certainly represents a unique, original and rare product. It was designed and built for a special purpose: to house the British observers following the America's Cup, to accompany the challenger boats from London to the United States. A pure motorsailer, with a thrust provided by two Gardner '62s with six in-line cylinders and 127 horsepower each, with 2000 litres of water reserve, with a sail rig consisting of two tangable jibs, still unmodified today

The configuration is ideal for chartering: a double dinette, one inside and one outside, protected by a fixed awning, make the boat extremely liveable during daylight hours; the sundeck on the deckhouse as well as the enormous deck space allow guests a capacity for movement that is hard to find on a boat of this type. There are five cabins: three guest cabins, consisting of a suite with a double bed and two bathrooms, and two twin guest cabins, with separate bathrooms.

The boat has been used for several years for charters, RINA expiry date 2025. The boat is in need of a major refit involving the teak on deck and several other elements.

Recently carried out the following work: overhaul of engine starters, replacement of water pump belts and replacement of batteries (including geenrator battery)
