About this Skærgårdskrydser

English

Current owner's description of the wooden boat Condor's History:

"Built by P Svendsen in Kastrup 1918 (one source says 1928) in Skærgårdskrydser class 55 sq.m. Up to about 1970, among the 5 fastest Danish yachts both with victories in Zealand round, Hven round etc. The boat is primarily based in the Sundet Sailing Club with sail no. S 20 (at that time each club had a letter of identification, but since S today marks Sweden, I have omitted S 20, on the new sails). The boat still has the stand from Sundet Sejlklub engraved in the bow fitting. In 1972 the boat capsized at Anholt, but it is salvaged and refurbished at the Grenå shipyard (here the mahogany hull is covered with 10 mm fiberglass). In 1980 I buy the boat together with 3 friends (stopped my racing career (won DM and WC in optimist)) and was probably sold on the excellent sailing characteristics of the boat. We sail Scandinavia thinly and also have a trip to England and France. In 1990 the hull was overhauled, which today is in solid fiberglass (15-30 mm), the deck is 2 layers of 9 mm mahogany plywood, with 1 layer of woven mat. Rooftop same construction from around 2000, however, with woven epoxy mat. The boat has 6 berths + 2 children's berths."
