English
This 12m GRP vessel is designed and built by South Boats Special Projects Ltd., to provide fast and efficient running at cruising speeds and loitering, combined with excellent sea-keeping. The design of the vessel is based on proven South Boats Special Projects Ltd. designs
Coded now for commercial 12 + 2 and 60 miles - 4 years still to run. The whole boat had to be serviced and recommissioned so everything has been including all new safety equipment. excluding liferafts which are on hire.
The vessel has a twin engine, twin shaft and propeller layout with excellent all round visibility, a raised wheelhouse, and a large clear after deck layout.
The hull design is the same advanced chine hull, developed in conjunction with operators over 10 years of construction. This extensive development program has resulted in a hull design witn very good internal volume and roll damping. Over 120 craft, ranging from 10 - 24 metres, have been built to this design in various different configurations.
The South Boats hull combines a number of advantages; finer initial entry in the forward sections rapidly becoming bluff and buoyant to give high reserves of buoyancy to maximise rough weather sea keeping as well as loitering and minimise pitching movement, efficient spray rails to keep the deck dry and to damp motions in heavy seas, a more sea-kindly shape in the forward slamming area, with a chine shape at the aft end to give stability in following seas. The shape also exhibits economical operation at cruising speed.
The double chine hull has excellent manoeuvrability, as has been proven by the vessels in service, both at slow speed for harbour operation and at service speeds for passage making. This is due to the shape of the hull, together with careful balancing of the lateral plane area.
Careful attention is constantly paid to weight control and detailed design, to produce a robust and sea kindly craft fit for the demanding role of offshore ship supply and crew transfer. In view of the operation requirements, weight refinement is not taken to the minimum limits allowed by classification rules, but is carefully considered to combine robust construction with efficient operation. The design and construction of the vessel is such that maintenance is reduced, reliability increased and in a world of deadlines every effort is made to ensure minimal vessel down time. Both construction and out fit materials are specifically chosen from key suppliers to ensure that quality and reliability is not compromised.
The GRP structure is designed and generally built to the requirements of the Lloyds Register o" Shipping (LRS) Special Service Craft (SSC) Rules.

CONSTRUCTION & FITOUT
HULL CONSTRUCTION
The vessel is built using the latest refined mould. The GRP hulls are fully stiffened with substantial ribs placed throughout the length of the vessel to provide a strong and robust structure. Engine bearers form part of the hull. The construction lay-up used is in accordance with Lloyds Register of Shipping (LRS) rules under their Special Service Craft (SSC) Rules. Chopped Strand Matt (CSM) is applied by hand application incorporating a number of combination matts incorporating woven rovings to which are bonded foam cored GRP overlaid ribs at 650mm centres throughout the length of the vessel. Foam cored GRP overlaid longitudinals are also incorporated. Hull thickness differs in different areas but a maximum of 32oz can be expected. Completed hull mouldings de-burred and gelwashed internally.Completed hull mouldings abraded prior to paint application.
Special attention paid to the forward area's with addition framing, structure and laminates above and below deck in way of the stem posts, deck and bulwark areas
