The Ocean 80 schooner, ARROW OF AYR, is a stunning Doug Petersen design with a practical schooner rig. Originally built in the Channel Islands in 1995, she is a powerful mile-muncher that underwent a significant refit in the Caribbean last year. The work included her striking new yellow topsides and superstructure livery, as well as a full overhaul of her rigs. Many of her systems were also updated. With a total of seven cabins, a spacious main saloon, and ample deck space, she has immense potential for serious passage-making.

Construction

Hull, Deck & Superstructure Construction:

• GRP hull, deck, and superstructure.
• Stainless steel and teak trim.
• Topsides resprayed in Awlgrip 2022.
• Deck resprayed with Kiwi Grip 2022.
• New zincs 2022.

Keel & Rudder:

• Steel keel with integral diesel tank and substantial lead bulb.

Machinery

Engine & Gearboxes:

• 1 x Ford Mermaid Manta YZ113857, 138kW.
• Engine removed and rebuilt in Antigua in 2022.
• Injection pump and injectors rebuilt by Bosch in Southampton UK.

Maintenance & Performance:

• Approx. every 250 hours full service.

Propulsion & Steering:

• Conventional shaft drive.

Description of layout from forwards:

• The crew accommodation is forward with a twin berth cabin with access into the shared  heads and shower compartment with the double berth crew cabin behind it. This cabin also has plentiful storage.
• Aft of this accommodation are two upped and lower guest cabins each with their own heads and showers forward between them and the crew accommodation. Both these cabins have their own wardrobes (and direct access into the galley).
• The galley  spans the width of the yacht  with ample work surfaces and refrigeration and to port there is a dinette with bench seating forward and aft (awaiting construction). The galley leads into the large main saloon.
• The main saloon has seating both to port and to starboard where there is also a large dining table and access to the main social cockpit.
• Aft of the main saloon down a separate stair there are two further double cabins each with their own heads and shower compartments which can be accessed from the aft lobby with nav station and a passage berth and access to the sailing cockpit.
• Also access to engine room.

Refit in Trinidad - 2022

• Jonas Rommel, Swedish, owner of Trinidad Rigging, removed the masts. Chainplates and mast tangs x-rayed. All wire and rigging screws renewed. Selden Furlers added for jib and staysail. Mast sheaves and reefing boom jammers overhauled. New halyards. Winches overhauled. Mast heels examined and no corrosion.
• All sails, except the foremast sail, new by Doyle and fitted by Doyle agent with lazybags.
• Foresail needs replaced.
• New Phasor 21kW generator was installed.
• The main engine was removed and entrusted to West End Power for servicing. The work was badly done, and the engine had to be removed and overhauled in Antigua. The injection pump and injectors sent to the Bosch Main Agent in Southampton for a rebuild.
• Shaft cutlass bearings replaced. New zincs. Batteries changed where needed.
• All seacocks replaced with Tru Design from New Zealand. New bronze seacocks were installed in the engine rooms. New tubing etc.
• Victron Smart shunt and battery monitor.
• Victron 5kW/100-amp autotransformer. 30 metre shore power cable.
• Starlink hard ware.
• 5 x New electric toilets and piping. New showers and basin taps.
• New gas cooker and 3 x Viking composite tanks and 3 x Camping Gaz.
• Hull sprayed with Awlgrip and deck with Kiwi Grip.
• A full sailing awning was designed and built. S/S frame covered with Sunbrella fabric.
• New cockpit and saloon cushions fitted. Much of the interior sprayed with Awlgrip.
