The first YDSA Croatian member, Ivo Miliçiç, was amongst the twenty delegates on the recent Report Writing Seminar run by the Yacht Designers and Surveyors Association. As a qualified naval architect his interest in the association was sparked by the growth in the yacht and charter market in Croatia; he has been a member since June 2009. The YDSA has seen an increase in work in this area and was pleased to have Ivo on board. The course, held at the Glassworks in Petersfield was led by experienced surveyor and long term committee member Tony Tucker. Tony analysed a real report to share his in-depth knowledge and expertise with the group. Assessment of reports is a vital part of the membership process and delegates learnt first hand what the committee are looking for. Providing the client with a clear, comprehensive report is important whether for purchase, insurance or any other reason.
A short question and answer forum session began the afternoon, covering earlier topics. Delegates then divided into small work groups with a senior YDSA member, to tackle specific issues. Several had brought their own reports for review and advice. This formula proved to be popular with positive feedback not only on the expert advice available but also the ability to share ideas and experiences with peers. A final discussion including MCA coding for small commercial vessels and a query on RCD compliance ended the day. Tony Tucker commented that bringing together a wealth of expertise to assist up-and-coming surveyors was a benefit to all involved.
Ivo Miliçiç, Director of Water Line Ltd in Zagreb commented:
'The Report Writing Seminar was very useful for new members of YDSA giving us the opportunity to meet colleagues and exchange professional views. The course covered many important areas for surveyors helping to maintain high standards and a professional service from YDSA members.’
